You don’t? Jeez, what’d I ever do to you?
What I want to know is why the people that complained about that thread weren’t called whiny bitches and told to get over it instead of closing the thread. Sure is easier to ignore an “offensive” thread than it is to post to a closed one.
Nothing really. I may have overstated that a bit. I just tend to disagree with many of the positions you seem to hold and your particular style of arguing. I’m sure you’d be fine to go out and have a beer with, but sometimes the way you present yourself on the board gets on my nerves.
Hell, I know I get on the nerves of quite a few posters here. Sorry if that sounded worse than I intended.
Or, there’s always the chance that I just got whooshed.
And what I wanna know why so many people seem to have such a huge emotional investment in such a stupid and inconsequential thing as a thread closing.
You must know that this thread really isn’t about the closing of one thread. It is about a perceived pattern.
Uh, not going by the OP it isn’t. Nor is it going by a large number of the replies. It didn’t become about a perceived pattern until Skippy offered his reason for closing that one specific thread. Only then, when several people refused to accept his reason, did it become about a pattern of perceived inconsistencies. Until that point, there was no criteria from which to even discern a pattern.
But . . . if you say it’s about a pattern, then I’ll stipulate that. So, please just tack an “s” to the end of my preceeding comment immediately before the closing period. My sentiment remains unchanged.
Of course it was stupid and inconsequential. And that’s what I find so troubling; that two moderators, rather than letting the thread trail away after a few more posts, as it would surely have done, decided to shut it down because they found it ‘disrespectful’.
If the great majority here don’t find that disturbing then the SDMB isn’t the board I thought it was.
I think it’s obvious from the arguments made in this, and any other questionable thread closing, that Mods are, in general, incapable of seeing patterns, except for the instances where a pattern may develop in the future, in which case the non-existant pattern is crystal clear. To them.
They always talk about the coffee cups, but I want the Mod’s Time-Machine.
So, UncleBeer’s willful missing of the point and inability to look at things in a larger context and, it would seem, inability to overcome the “must defend moderator decisions at all cost” conditioning aside, my question still stands.
There’s something else on the internet other than the SDMB? what the hell for?
Goat porn, mostly.
Is felching involved?
It wouldn’t be quality goat porn otherwise.
Why do you have such a huge emotional investment in other people’s inconsequential complaints that you feel the need to complain about it? Let it go. It’s just a message board.
I’d like to ban all “this complaint is trivial” complaints as inherently self-contradictory. If a complaint is too petty to post, then any complaint about its pettiness even pettier - practically by definition.
Of course since I’m posting a complaint about a complaint about a complaint now - or wait is it actually a complaint about a complaint about a complaint about a complaint? Yup I think it is a fourth generation complaint. Well anyway that must mean I’m pitting myself and my logic eats itself like a snake consuming its own tail. You can all bite me, you petty, whiny petulant messageboard posting losers. And that goes for me too.
No, actually, my hyperbole meter is in perfect working order, or else I wouldn’t have posted in this thread in the first place. It triggers whenever I see 80 posts made, including all kinds of accusations of factions and personal vendettas and past grievances, accusations of “defending the moderators at any costs,” calling other posters “chickenshit,” asking whether gay and racist jokes are okay (?!?), bringing up cites and previous threads as if this were an IRS audit, and demanding explicit rules and explanations for what has been explained over and over again is a purely subjective decision.
All for a total non-issue that any rational-thinking person would’ve responded to with your “So. The Fuck. What.”
I’d suggest that you get the meter re-calibrated.
Your complaint is trivial.
Might I suggest a refresher course in the recognition of irony?
Boom!
Aw, snap!
pWNED!
