Must be one of those YMMV things. As long as we stayed away from maltitol my grandfather never had an issue with a spike from sugar-free candies. According to his doctor we were supposed to subtract half for sugar alcohol carbs. That allowed him to have an occasional serving. They were sold in the diabetic section of Walgreens but I can’t find it online now. Carbolite? Carbrite? I can’t remember. Also Sorbee hard candies with Diabetisweet (it looks like they use Splenda now). He had no problems at all but I guess it’s different for everyone.
