What do I do about the stray dog in the neighborhood?

A dog sans collar has been running around our neighborhood for a few weeks now, and I’m not sure what to do about it. I think it’s probably a stray because it looks bedraggled and a little thin. It’s been nosing around our garbage for weeks, and other neighbors have complained of the same thing. Just today it came on our back porch and started rooting through the garbage when I saw it through the window. We locked eyes for a moment but it didn’t back off until I reached for the door handle. I felt really sorry for it - quite a pretty dog, actually, looks like an Irish setter. It tilted its head to the side when I was watching it, fixing me with a surprisingly intelligent and pleading look.

I’d like to call animal control and have suggested as much to my mom, but she pointed out that it would be gone by the time they got here. Should we call animal control anyway? Try to trap it? We live in Alabama, so it’s not too cold (yet), but it could get down to freezing fairly quickly.

You can maybe call your local animal shelter and see what things they would suggest…they may be able to help you trap it. You may eventually decide to adopt it

Trap it and get it neutered.

Find out if he’s dark meat or white meat. Then fire up the grill.

Okay, seriously, call your local Animal Control and give them a description of the dog and the area(s) it’s been seen in the most often.

I you decide to eat the dog, make sure you cook it thoughly, to kill any possible bacteria.

You take the damn thing in and give it a meal! Give it a home! If you call animal control they’re just gonna kill the poor thing! Geez! Have a heart!

What we like to do is…

First, give it a good, christian name. Then get it a social security number. Then you can claim it on you next round of tax deductions!

Round up some more and open a speciality restaurant?
