What do I do to get a video to play on my Chromebook?

Never mind what kind of video (heh heh). I have a link to it that allows me to see it on my phone or on my laptop. But when it gets to the 55 second mark on my Chromebook, it locks up and doesn’t go further. I’ve disabled the ad blocker. No help. And it used to work just fine. I’ve cleared the cache. I don’t know what else to try. Do you?

Some videos contain glitches n how the data file is laid out. Some video players are more tolerant of glitches than others. I have no idea if alternate vid players or alternate browsers are available for Chromebook. But I think that’s the problem you’re having. That vid player is choking on some glitch in that video.

Modern Chromebooks can install Android apps. You might a less fussy video player in Google Play.

Try a different browser

I know @Revtim isn’t the OP, but the combination of their avatar and the thread title when it came up on my feed seemed to sum up the frustration that can occur with computers.

Not having a Chromebook I did not know this. But know I do, I would recommend the amazing VLC app.

came to post the same

VLC is pretty much the “4x4 vehicle” of vid players …

Yeah, if there’s anything that can play any given vid, VLC can do it.

Personally I prefer KMPlayer for just playback. Technically it’s the more limited of the two programs, but I think it plays smoother. Can also play VR videos in single-screen.
