My step father passed away on Thanksgiving and I received a large quantity of the silver jewlery he sold in his flea market business. I’m talking better than 16 pounds of necklaces and barcelets (mostly pretty heavy Figaro and DC rope), 1700+ rings, lots of “bling bling” [sub] what can I say? He knew his market up in SE Wisconsin[/sub]
What I’m wondering is, do I try to sell it all to a dealer or do I go through the hell of selling it retail, on Ebay or at Maxwell Street (outdoor market in Chicago)? My mom worked with my dad for a long time in the business so she is sorting it by grade and quality as well as sorting it by how much she things it would bring per gram.
Any Chi-Dopers want some silver jewlery? Perhaps I could do a Tupperware-style party for y’all at my place
EBay. And, although it’s a pain, sell each piece seperately. You’ll make more money this way. It helps to have a digital camera but it’s not absolutely necessary. If you decide to sell as a lot, be sure to set a reserve price.
And I would avoid selling to a dealer, unless you just don’t want to hassle with this. Dealers will typically give less than 50% in order to make a profit when they sell. (At least, here they do… YMMV etc)
I might be interested in buying some off of you. My wife loves silver jewelry, and I just like silver anything. If you have any pics of what you have, even if it is bulk stuff, I’d love to take a peek at them. If interested, drop me an email please.
Another potential buyer!..and I’ll even get specific: Any dragonfly stuff? I collect and wear dragonfly stuff all the time. Also, I’m looking for a silver ring- the circle of the ring is comprised of what looks like children holding hands in a ring-a-round-the-rosy. Anything like that?
