We’re close to selling the house. We have 2 small markers for our departed kitties where we buried them.

Both markers are wooden, homemade and neither is more than 3" wide and 12" tall.
Take some photos of the markers to remember them by, then remove them.
I would say take them. They will mean nothing to the new owners at best, and would likely be trashed at worst.
Ask your realtor as anything that is in the ground generally stays.

I just never thought of it before. It seems odd to remove them but odd to leave them.

Take pictures, then move them. I would, when I got my new place, put the markers in the prettiest spot as a memorial.
I’d also find a way to clue the new owners in about the place the markers were so they could avoid digging there or at least know what they could run into.
