Just picked up a dresser at a garage sale for $5. It has two wide, deeper drawers at bottom, and then narrows to three smaller drawers on top behind two doors. One of the smaller drawers has a concave cut-away in front that holds a piece of glass, and another is divided into three rows inside.
It’s very heavy and solid, although not at all antique or anything. We needed dresser storage, and it is the perfect height to also serve as a TV stand in bedroom. The third small drawer on top is missing, so that will be the DVD-player shelf lol.
I’m stripping the ugly yellow surface (veneer?) and am going to stain it darker.
Just wondering what this is properly called. There’s no hanging clothes area, so it’s not a chifferobe or variety of wardrobe. Chest on chest? I’m really ignorant of furniture types, not having the money to shop for new…
Either way, I’m happy with investment and enjoying my first DIY furniture project.
I’m not sure what it is properly called, but I was curious about what this piece might look like and googled several different terms. Satisfactory results were had from “stacked chest.”

Hopefully that works, my first foray with Picassa
The Google image results for stacked chest (with safe filter on lmao) show some similar, but still not with doors over the smaller drawers?
I can’t wait to finish sanding it and see what it looks like stained. Very happy with the $5 spent so far (ok, up to $10 with extra sandpapere, and haven’t bought stain yet).
Facebook friends have also suggested armoire, but those (even when including a couple drawers) seem to be much more ornate, and have hanging/wardrobe area or shelves behind the doors.
Perhaps stacked chest with doors is closest descriptor?
Hoping the photos will help.
Picasa won’t let me see the pictures. do you have it set to friends only?
Sorry, new to Picassa.
I think it is set now to anyone with link. Let me know, please, if you can see it now.
No, I can’t see the photos. I get “Oops… there’s nothing to see here. Either you do not have access to these photos, or they don’t exist at this web address. Please contact the owner directly to gain access.”
the mirror part sounds more like a chifforobe.
Dang it, sorry. Tried changing to “Public to anyone on Web”. Hopefully it is visible now.
I could see it fine now. I don’t know the proper term for that piece though.
