What do you call your parents?

I call my mother “Mommy” but my father thinks this is wrong. Only little kids call their mother “Mommy”, and I’m 27. The appropriate name for a mother of adult children, in his opinion, is “Mama” or “Mom” or whatever the grandkids call her. Personally, I think this is a strange rule. My mother does not look like a “Mama” or “Mom”. She looks like a “Mommy”. And I’m not about to start calling her “Noni” just because my neices and nephew do. That’s crazy.

But for some reason, he has no problem with me calling him “Daddy”. I’m glad because he does not look like a “Pop”, “Dad”, “Papa”, or “Pa”. He looks like a “Daddy”.

What do you call your parents, and did your names for them change when you became an adult?

I called my parents Mama & Daddy in childhood and still refer to them as such now that I’m 38.

Doh! I didn’t know I was in Cafe!

I’ve always address my mother as mama (more or less mommy, in English), but my father has always been just plain ol’ Ba, which in English would be the equivalent of Dad, with a capital D, just one step below Father.

I call my father Daddy to his face but refer to him as Dad when speaking about him to others.

Addressed. All my grammars disappearing after midnights, see?

My parents and I are on a first name basis. Same situation with one set of grandparents too.

My parents are usually Mum and Dad, but sometimes they also get Ma and Daddy.
When I was little it was always Mummy or Mumma and Daddy.

I called my parents Mom and Dad from about junior high school on. I like it when my married daughter calls me Daddy, but she usually calls me Dad. My son calls my wife and I Mom and Dad.

My father is Daddy.

I don’t speak to my mother by choice.

I call my step-mom by her first name. She and my dad have been together for 15 years.

My FIL was Dad, to distinguish him from Daddy, and my MIL is Mum, since she’s English.

I’m 37. And it may sound childish, but my father will always be my Daddy.

Ditto, but I’m 37. I think everyone in Alabama calls their parents Mama & Daddy.

I call my mom mom, unless I’m feeling particularly precious, then I call her mommy. I call my mother-in-law by her first name, which feels weird to me, but calling her mom, ma’am, or Ms. Saunders would be even weirder.

I’m pretty unoriginal. My mom is just “Mom” and my dad is just “Dad”. I do have some weird names for my grandparents, though. My maternal grandmother (may she rest in peace) I called “Mimi” and my paternal grandmother I call “Mum-Mum”. Both my maternal and paternal grandfathers I call “Pop-Pop”, so to disambiguate I would say “Pop-Pop Harold” and “Pop-Pop Fred” (may he also rest in peace).

I use the Korean word for “Mom” when addressing my mom. And I call my father “Dad” in English. I used to call my father “Dad” in Korean when I was a kid, but I’ve stopped doing that now.

Vermin.

Their former title used to be Scum Queen and her Consort, Moron Boy.

These are the few non-profane names I had for them.

Okay, from 1992-1998 she was known in my column as Evil Satan Mom.

The Late Mr. & Mrs. Cheffie.

My parents still live in Dublin. I call my Mother “Mam” and my Father “Dad”.

This thread reminded me of how much I miss them

Time for a quick call home I think.

Moved from Cafe Society to IMHO…

I’m boring - Mom and Dad. Also, oftentimes, Ma.

Ma is usually said when I am speaking to her directly - when I am talking about my parents to someone else, I say “my mom” and “my dad”. Unless it’s my brother, then I just say Mom and Dad.

Oh, I do call my mom Mumsy and Mother when I’m joking around or faking a British accent. (Apologies to anyone who actually has this particular accent, as I really suck at it :D)

I have always just called my parents mom and dad. I do not ever remember calling them mommy and daddy. I am sure that I did when I was really young, but not in my memory.

I also call most of my friends parents mom and dad. I will refer to them as mom (insert surname) or dad (insert surname). They also do the same with my parents.
