EMEA Technical account manager
I spend usually 6 hours a day typing away, but my schedule is pretty flexible. It’s not unknown or even all that uncommon for me to be at a customer site for a late-night upgrade or something like that, starting at midnight and going until 4am, so work hours are pretty flexible.
I get the statutory 25 days paid holiday (vacation) per year plus 8 bank holidays and as much other time off as I need for appointments and such. Oh, and I work from home most days.
RE sick days and such: I believe I get one hour of sick leave for every 18 hours of teaching. This accumulates indefinitely and I think it also gets converted to retirement credit if I don’t use it.
I was able to bring my sick leave hours to my newer campus when I left another campus for good.
We are also able to donate sick leave hours to the catastrophic leave pool so that those who need to take a lot of time off but need extra leave time can use donated hours from others.
My husband is in this position as well. He has 27 years in with the City, but a year’s worth of annual leave/sick leave built up, so actually he could retire with 28 years today.
What do I do?
Technically my job title is Operations Manager. I work for an oilfield services company and I have 4 departments and over 200 people working for me. We provide services to big (and small) oil companies to get their wells drilled, completed and producing. I deal with clients, our sales force, our operations teams, investigate incidents, involved in personnel development/training/competancy, discipline, service delivery, field visits, safety programs, moral and much much more.
How much do I work?
I am salary so although in theory it is 40 hours a week and tend to work many more hours. I tend to be in at about 6.30am most days and work until 7 most nights. My cell phone is always on and I am on call 24/7. However I have good people working for me and if I get calls at 2AM it is serious. My days are pretty packed. However this week for some strange reason we are quite so I left at 4.30 yesterday and I plan on leaving at 5ish today
How much time do I get off?
As I currently work in the USA we have most of the major holidays are paid holidays ie if I work I get holiday pay. I earn 5 hours every pay check in vacation and 2 personal days as well as 40 hours of ‘family time’. But being as everyone here works such long hours if you want to take off early for the weekend it really is no problem.
