Grey Goose + Trader Joe’s unsweetened cranberry juice = heavenly Cape Cod.
And I don’t care about the taste as much as I care about the superior buzz.

And the superior morning after!
I know it’s debatable, but I swear that finer boozes do have less impurities in them and as a result your head hurts less in that early morning meeting. Even if it’s just a placebo effect, I don’t care. It works, damn it!
Isn’t that the point? That is why it mixes well with just about anything.
That goes without saying, I’d think.
I use Smirnoff for mixing. I have a few different flavors depending on what I want to make.
I keep of bottle of Stoli in the freezer, ditto when I have something pricey.
Same as the other posters, this is for drinking neat.
But dammit, not matter how expensive the vodka, Stoli can hold its own as far as quality goes. Not better than the pricey ones, but still comparable.
Oooh yes, my summer “business” trip–blinis with black caviar, sturgeon with pomegranate syrup, iced vodka drunk straight.
I think that dinner balanced out the getting-trapped-in-the-Moscow-subway part.
It makes a wonderful gift for your favorite Moderator.
But how did the next pitcher of WATER taste?
I like Ketel One a lot. It does have a different taste than Grey Goose or Sapphire-- I feel like I can taste that it’s made from potato.
Stick it in the freezer, then stick in it a glass, then stick it in your stomach via your mouth. If I plan to corrupt it with something else (totally acceptible) I’ll just buy Gordon’s or something.
I usually have a couple of bottles of Stoli around at any one time. I prefer an unspellable brand of Polish vodka, but that is mainly because I get a bottle as a gift every year. As long as I don’t have to pay for it, I’ll drink the best I have, even in a Bloody Mary.
Actually Debaser that’s mostly true
I thought I was the only one who mixed vodka with things like… Crystal Light. But it’s quite yummy, especially with some diet Sprite in there for a bit of fizz.
I like vodka (Stolichnaya) with unsweetened cranberry juice and diet sprite. I like vodka with orange or grapefruit juice. I like vodka with exotic sparkling fruity pop, like kiwi-mango-whatever. (Soda pop.)
I like vodka.
I do not like vodka with cola, however.
Drink it?
I recently discovered that straight shots of high-quality vodka + 100-pound young woman + high altitude = pleasantly drunk real fast.
Alternately, mix it with Red Bull or some other energy drink. It tastes OK and does a good job at prolonging that pleasantly drunk feeling.
Note: I am a Stupid and Broke College Student, and therefore probably the least qualified person on this board to give advice as to what’s a good use of alcohol.
What a coincidence!
I, too, am partial to high quality vodka + 100-pound young women. The altitude i can take or leave.
This is a variation of the cairpiroska, and it’s great: Grind together chopped mint leaves, 5-6 slices of lime and 1-2 teaspoons of sugar (or sugar syrup) in a glass. Fill it with crushed ice and top it up with vodka.
That sounds like a mojito…only not with rum.
Mmmm. Out of the freezer, and into a cordial glass. No rocks, no mixers, just straight, super-cold vodka. Sip it or shoot it, depending on mood (but usually two or three sips does it). Very nice.
I don’t understand the rational behind this. Brita filters cost between $6 & $8, depending on where I buy them, and how many are in the pack. Cossack vodka is, what? Another $6 or $8 for a jug? And you can step up to a decent bottle for a few bucks more. I can’t imagine filtering drinking water through a brita filter that I’ve been pumping bathtub vodka through. So, what’s the deal? Keep the brita filter aside for future vodka filtering? Spend the next week drinking subtly shitty tasting water? Does the filter not retain the bathtub flavor? Is this just some college-kid stunt that’s been tried so shits-n-grins?
I gotta know.
On googling, it seems what I’ve described is the caipirojka, and not the caipiroska. The caipirojka is like the mojito, only not with rum. Both are vodka drinks, but the latter excludes the mint leaves.
I still reccommend the cairpirojka.
Some recent personal experiments have shown me that one gets perfectly acceptable booze filtering results by lining a funnel with a paper coffee filter and filling it with activated charcoal. Put the funnel in an empty bottle and pour the booze slowly through it. Activated charcoal sold for use in aquarium filters works perfeclty well for the purpose. This method is dramatically less expensive than using water pitcher filters.
