Veggie broth with tons of garlic and Sriracha sauce.
Oatmeal.
My Mom’s potato soup.
Screwdrivers!
Egg salad sandwiches.
Depends what sort of sick I am.
A cold with a stuffed up nose? Spicy stuff (Vietnamese, chili) or hot soup (generally French Onion) and lots of tea and hot lemon drinks.
Really sick, that I don’t want any food because I feel ill at the thought? Usually saltines and chicken broth. Not chicken noodle soup, just the broth and again lots of tea and hot lemon drinks and some flat ginger ale.
Jumping on the Hot Soups of Asia bandwagon, when it’s a head cold. Also grilled cheese sandwiches. When I’m too sick to have an appetite, but know I have to eat so I don’t pass out or somesuch, instant oatmeal- no chewing, just gulp it down.
If I’m really sick, I just stay in bed and sleep. I get up to drink fluids and use the toilet and then go back to sleep. No food until I feel up to eating.
I’ve started getting this from the nearby Chinese restaurant when I have a cold (we always get it when we order from there also). Thought I was being original. Spicy to get that stuffed up nose running and cleared out.
I also like Peppridge farm Chessmen cookies. To drink, Elmo juice, but we can’t find it anymore. Yeah, the Sesame Street character. 100% juice: white grape, cherry, and arronia berry (AKA chokeberry, but they won’t call it that on the ingredient list).
McDonald’s.
Tastes the same when I’m sick as when I’m healthy.
Apart from that I like spicy crispis, instant soups (preferably with some tabasco) and some hot tea to wash it all down.
Moving thread from IMHO to Cafe Society.
Weak tea, flat ginger ale, chicken soup (homemade, please!).
I tend to stick to clear soups, Jello and Sprite, ginger ale or tea with sugar and progress to crackers and toast. This way, I’m not overtaxing my system, I’m getting fluids, and they come up as easily as they go down.
If it’s just a cold, I don’t eat anything special. I just make sure I get more fluids.
I’ll be the fourth to say hot and sour soup. Mine has to be from Sun Wah on Broadway (formerly on Argyle) in Chicago, nothing else will do.
7-UP or Sprite (or maybe juice)
Soup broth
Crackers
Jell-O
Hot and sour soup sounds like a great idea. I’m sure I won’t remember it when I’m actually sick, though.
