So I was herping on a tech message board, discussing the future of computing when someone wrote this:
The first thing that popped into my mind was ‘we stay up late, being up-to-date’. The second thing was ‘why am I still up this early into the morning (SE Asia being where I am) writing to strangers on a message board?’
You see I love technology, I have invested time, money, emotions and oh so much of my limited brain power over the gadgets that I have it’s sometimes ridiculous. I pester my SO, my colleagues, my friends over the slightest inefficiency in the use of technology and insist that they know all the benefits that this certain app will give to their productivity, or how this TV is better because it has an ethernet port, or how this laptop is better because it supports SDXC. And by now you’re probably half asleep as well reading my short little rant. I keep up to date with tech so I (hopefully) know and see the benefits that advances in technology will offer us before the general consumer. And then I evangelize the s#*t out of it, not to be annoying (even though that’s usually the result) but to help people. Seriously!
But this got me thinking, just the other day my SO and I were at a one-stop electronics home appliance place, and because we’re moving to a new house next year she was thinking of getting a new washer and dryer. So there we were looking at stuff when she sees something, goes ‘eek!’ and pulls me towards a big, grey box with a hole in the front. She looked at me and then proceeded to out-rant me! She went on for a good (what felt like) 15 minutes on the reasons why we should get this particular washing machine because it has more thingamies while using less whatsits and that using this dryer would save us money because the whatchamacallit doesn’t need a doodad. And all the while my face went from

to :o to :eek:!! That’s what I must sound like!
So I’m enthused by tech, apparently my SO by laundry machines. What about you? What makes you as annoying as my SO and I? Just for the sake of grammarians who disapprove of my poor form in the title: With what do you keep up-to-date?
