What do you know a lot about?

Maybe you are an expert on Star Wars. Perhaps your cup o’ tea is the inner workings of a toilet. I would simply like everyone to brag on one thing they feel they know a lot about.

I know a lot about 3 things (IMHO):

  1. Ice Cream. I know its history, all about its production and many random and cool facts. If it is Ice Cream related, I probably know all about it. Plus, I eat it almost every single day.

  2. The Bass guitar. How to play it. How it came about. The great bass players and so on.

  3. Unfortunately, the plumbing underneath a sink. I have had to replace this crap so many times, I think I could do it with my eyes closed and with gloves on.

I know a lot about cars and computers, however, I’m still learning. I know nothing about being social. Aren’t you shocked?

Star Trek and other sci-fi

I think, for my age, I know a fairly good amount of history. Mostly American. Civil War and WWII. I’d still love to learn more.

What sucks is that it’s the ONLY subject I’m good at. Nothing else can hold my attention.

I know a lot about plants. But that knowledge seems infinitesimally small compared to what there is to know about the buggers. I think it’s fascinating how they respond to their environment, and how dynamic they are.

Really, I know a bit about a lot of things. Jane of all trades and master of none, and all that.

Pocket knives. I don’t know half as much as some guys I know, but I know quite a bit about knives.

Gardening. Again, I’m no James Crockett, but I know my freesia from my gaillardia. I know my Rootone from my deadheading.

Oh yeah, I know a lot about plants too. No, really I do.

Sumo.

…and that’s about it. I don’t get a chance to show off that knowledge very often, though.

Fraternities, comparative politics and international relations (mostly the latter, particularly relating to the Sultanate of Oman), legal and political theory, Latin, east Orlando, 1993 US model Honda Accords, F-Zero on the Super Nintendo, Goldeneye on the N64, Agent Felix (the punk band), Marlboro mild cigarettes, drinking games, and probably some other stuff too…

I’ll tell you what, though- if I’ve learned one thing from the SDMB, its that, simply put, I don’t know shite. (mods- I apologise in advance if said term is not kosher)

Henry the 8th and his wives.

Me too! I’m an avid Tudor buff. (I’m currently reading Starkey’s new book.)

My other area of expertise: Cleaning, conserving and storing antiques. (I work in a museum.)

I also know quite a bit about animal behavior.

I only know useless stuff.

Flowers and design, NOT gardening.

Baroque music, bassoon and harpsichord pieces especially.

Late 60s/early70s rock music, emphasis on lyrics nobody cares about.

The more I learn about any subject, the more I realize how little I know about it.

All I know is that I’m getting awfully hungry hearing you talk about that.

I am the (self-appointed) World’s Leading Authority on military codewords (Desert Storm, Desert Shield, Desert Fox et. al.)

I am also a bit of an expert on Freemasonry and the Republic of Panama.

Well, let’s put it this way: whenever we’re playing Trivial Pursuit (Genus Edition) I have a better chance with the categories in this order:

Entertainment
Science
Geography
Sports
Literature
History

We played the new edition recently (the last 20 years or whatever it’s called) and I didn’t know anything. If it has to do with video games, whatever’s on MTV, recent “action” movies, the latest “Top 40” (or however many they’re counting to nowadays), current sitcoms, drama series other than the HBO things, and dozens of other “pop culture” topics, I know next to nothing.

You have to go back at least 20 years before I can start remembering stuff. That’s about the last time I even cared about “popular” topics.

Before that, though, I can answer a fair number of questions on a significant number of topics.

I know a lot about rock music from the 60’s-80’s.

I know a lot about TV and film.

I guess I have a good memory for facts…I usually know most of the answers on “Jeopardy!” although, I don’t know if I could master the signalling button.

I’m a fifth grade teacher and have been for several years, so I know a lot about the curriculum I have to teach…American history, beginning chemistry, the solar system, math, etc.

World war two and collectivisation, and other rather dull aspects of the former Soviet economy I find interest.

Please give me a brief synopsis of the history of Sumo. I would love to be informed.

I know a lot about monopoly games and cake decorating and babies.
