What do you know how to play on the guitar?

I’ve been playing guitar since 67, so I won’t start listing them all.

The first song I taught myself to finger pick was Alice’s Restaurant. I was proud of that.
Blackbird (the Beatles)
Suite Judy Blue Eyes (Not quite the same bastardized open E tuning that Stills used, but my way sounds pretty damn good)
Secret Agent Man (The band I’m now does this one)
The rhythm guitar lick for Layla as performed by Derek and The Dominoes.

Jelly Roll Morton’s “Winin’ Boy Blues,” cribbed off of a live Hot Tuna album. Some not bad finger-picking.

My guitar party trick is the version of “Gymnopedes” by Paul Satie that Richard Thompson uses at the end of “The Great Valario”…some intricate cross picking involved there…it ain’t much but it’s all I got…that and the opening to “Love in Vain” by Robert Johnson…

i love to watch racing. anything that has a motor and turns corners. if i ever have the money i want to drive, too.

Sweet!, I love to race. If you have a fast street car, you can take it to most tracks during open track days.
I’m taking my integra up to New Hampshire Intl Speedway this month for an open track day.

I played guitar for a week or two before the summer, then I didn’t have access to one for over 2 months. I tried to play again, but obviously lost a lot of what little I had. All I really knew well were barre chords anyway. I used to try to hack out “Santeria” by Sublime (the band I was playing trombone in at the time covered it), then some mostly power chord based Black Sabbath stuff. I wanna get myself a guitar or bass sometime and learn enough so that I could actually call myself a guitarist, but I have a lot less time since I’m in college now and haven’t found anyone yet that could help me out. (I miss just jammin’ with people.) Someday, though.

My favorite piece of all time to play is “Eugene’s Trick Bag”. It is the last solo in the movie “Crossroads”. I have spent years playing this over and over and can still cannot play it at speed. Damn Vai!

There is no feeling in the world like playing this at a music store and watching peoples reactions.

It’s a bitch to learn but if you like here is a site with the music and tab.

Hmmm…my repertoire consists of about six songs at a time. Every time I learn a new one I forget one.

Proudest of? Performed in public – it’d have to be Leo Kottke’s version of Bach’s “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring”. Just foolin’ around – Leo Kottke’s version of Duane Allman’s “Little Martha” or Leo Kottke’s version of Pete Seeger’s “Living In The Country”. Anyone notice a trend here?

Only barely recognizeably, but since my best friend in school was a keyboard player we would attempt to play 96 Tears and Innagoddadavida with me on acoustic guitar. [sub]Damn, we were bad.[/sub]

I cannot play the guitar at all, but, I did once learn how to play “The Man who Ruled the World”, the David Bowie song that Nirvana later covered on their accoustic album.

I can play “Stairway to Heaven” on my violin

Yea we count. And should get extra credit because it’s so hard to find either good tab or score for bass lines. I can play “House of the Rising Sun” using a tab I found online, but I really don’t think it’s accurate. And I’m still too new to quite figure out what’s different.

The good news is that there is finally a “Rock Bass Bible” and a “Bass White Pages”. I’m really tired of picking up song books and only finding guitar and piano scores.

My greatest accomplishment on guitar is the phish song “guyute”, the whole damn thing…very interesting.
In a close second, it’s…the Simpsons theme! very fun to bust out in the middle of a jam in front of “real” guitar players (I’m a drummer, dammit!
