What do you think of Ebaumsworld?

the Something Awful crowd considers Eric Bauman a thieving bastard. Others think it’s a convinient collection of funny tidbits of the internet. I personally am leaning towards the something awful side. But I can’t say that I’ve never looked at the content on ebaumsworld.com

What do you think?

I don’t know about “Thieving Bastard”, but I personally think there are better sites out there that have collections of funny videos and stuff.

Having seen plenty of stuff blatantly ripped off from posters at b3ta, watermarked, (sometimes over original watermarks) and hosted at ebaumsworld without any accreditation, I’d have to agree with “thieving bastard.”

The whole situation is neatly summed up in this flash animation. And you can dance to it.

That was a very catchy song. I’m never going to go to ebaumsworld because it.

And yes, I am that easily swayed.

Why can’t it be both?

It is perfectly possible that the presence of so many “funny tidbits” on the site are, indeed, a product of the site owner’s thievery.

I’m taking bets on how long it takes for that video to show up on eBaum’s World
any takers?
anyone?

I wasn’t aware there was any controversy; basically the only time I’ve been to eBaumsworld is to download some of those prank calls – and those are available all over the internet.

If he’s showing copywrited material, why don’t they just get a court order against him? Is there some aspect of this I’m missing?

You can get some sense of the whole kerfuffle at Wikipedia, although the article is labelled as being “disputed” as to its neutrality.

Money. Eric Bauman’s got a lot more of it available to throw at lawyers than most of the people he’s stealing from.

He hired some male prostitutes
dressed them up in three-piece suits
his faithful team of lawyers
made the Internet his bitch.

As do I. Everybody “borrows” image macros from around the Internet. The origin of many image macros and other humorous files is lost to obscurity. However, where the source is known – as the case is with images from SA – he doesn’t offer any sort of credit whatsoever.

A couple of years ago, I created an animated Jim Carrey “RIDE THE SNAKE” gif. It’s all over the place now, and I don’t expect folks to give me credit every time they use it. However, if it was posted in a “create something new”-type thread, and a few days later it’s on eBaum’s with his watermark, and no credit whatsoever, I’d be pissed.

Marge Simpson: Wait, I have a song too! Don’t make your decision until you’ve heard both songs.
