I asked in another thread once how Dopesters liked Netscape 6.0 — the response was quite negative. A common reaction was that the software was so huge it slowed down operation.
Now I see they’re offering 6.1; do you suppose they may have taken people’s negative feedback into account and worked to correct 6.0 problems? What are the great new features?
Manage multiple E-mail accounts — no thanks, I can’t even use Netscape for E-mail. Useless to me.
Built-in messaging — I don’t use messaging.
Forms manager: automatically fills all your important information with one click — How does that work? Is it useful?
Powerful search — if it could top Google, now that would be something to crow about.
I’m happily running Netscape 4.74, and remain skeptical about 6.1 until I can learn more about real people’s experiences with it.
I don’t know about this. I can do most of that already with Netscape 6.0, so I don’t know what the difference is. I actually tried to download 6.1, but I can’t find it now. Oh, well. If I do find it, I doubt I will use it. I use IE most of the time, anyway. When I have tried to use Netscape for my e-mail stuff, I always get confused. I use the Net-Mail service that they have, which I really like, but other than that their other mail service sucks.
There are still some minor annoyances that keep me from switching back to Netscape. On Netscape 4.x if you resized the window or tried to print, it had to reload the page again. On 6.1 if I hit BACK button, it had to reload it again!! You might not realize how often you hit the BACK button.
It’s hard to find and subscribe to newsgroups and combine multipart messsages. Downloading messages from newsgroups also wasn’t easy so I said Ba-Bye!!
