Do you KNOW it was paneling and not molding or quarteround or stuff like that? I work with/break that stuff up for firewood on a regular basis. You most certainly CAN stab the crap outa something with those broken pieces. Hell, even paneling pieces are worse than you think they are.
Where’s YOUR experience? All you have is your flimsy opinion.
As it happens, I’ve worked LE and residential treatment both with emotionally disturbed teens and with juvenile sex offenders. The restraint techniques typically taught to treatment center workers are, in my experience, not exceptionally effective. They’re aimed mostly at reducing the chance of harm to the client (not so much the worker) and all seem to be designed off the idea that the person being restrained is going to be unarmed and not particularly interested in hurting anybody. For your typical treatment center kid, who is mostly interested in doing some hollering and being the center of attention, it manages to be enough most of the time. The last time I took the training, I asked the two adult male trainers to try to restrain me using the techniques they had just taught us. I landed flurries of light contact blows on both of them, swept the legs out from under one of them, and headlocked the other to the floor. It was a good unofficial lesson for some of my co-workers because our client load at that time included a number of big, strapping 17-18 year old boys who were in pretty solid condition from playing sports.
Spraying that kid was the right thing to do. Nobody was injured and the situation was brought under control. That’s an ideal outcome, as far as I am concerned.
None of these are baseboards, but they include severe injuries with all sorts of cheap, flimsy wood, including one suicide attempt with a chopstick. Most of the injuries are to eyes, necks, and mouths, which makes sense. These parts of the body are soft and easily pierced and don’t require a substantial item to pierce them. Hell, I’ve cut the inside of my mouth with plastic drinking straws and gotten a paper cut on my eyeball that could have caused some serious damage. That kid could have seriously blinded any one of those people, police officers included, or even broken through someone’s trachea and caused them to suffocate to death with a flimsy piece of wood.
I’d also point out that it’s quite common for wood that splinters parallel to the grain to remain quite strong and won’t crumble at pressure applied perpendicular to the grain.
Pretty fucking easy, especially if you get it in the eye or the earhole. Soft tissues of the neck are also very vulnerable. A good hit in a carotid and it’s game-over.
This amounts to an accusation of trolling. Diogenes’ provacative posts — and everyone who responds to him in ways such as this — create this “Dio Show” situation, which derails threads and turns them into trainwrecks.
Yesterday I closed a similar thread. Today I’m doing the same. If people would like to discuss topics as adults, well, that’s what we’re here for. If you want to bait one another, there are plenty of other places on the Internet to do that.
Thread closed, with the advice from me that you all know how to behave yourselves — please act like it.
Dio, yourpostsdo not evince great respect for the viewpoints of others. I know, to call someone else’s argument a crock of shit is, technically, within the realm of attacking the post rather than the poster, but it is hardly a reasonable and non-insulting statement of disagreement.
Neither do you seem to allow that you might not be 100% right.
I’d advise you to cool it in this thread, and not post in it unless you have something new to add.
