I occasionally come across passages in books where a person’s voice - generally that of a woman - is compared unfavourably with the sound of a corn crake. So what does a corn crake sound like? Strident? Whiny? Shrill?
Thanks, that’s interesting. There must be a bit of poetic licence in the descriptions. I can’t imagine anyone’s voice actually sounding like that.
Oh, I dunno, I’ve sold cigarettes to some pretty raspy-voiced women in my time.
You’ve apparently never met my ex-girlfriend’s mother.
Perfect.
Your name’s pretty damn good, too.
