Hi, first off I hope this is the right forum for such a thread.
Anyway, I want to help my friend, who is in need of a particular prop for a professional play she is working on. The prop is a French phone book. Not the yellow pages, though, she needs the white pages edition, with local listings and such.
I have looked everywhere on the web, starting with Google and eBay, but I haven’t been able to locate a picture.
Can anyone who knows where I can find a picture of a French phone book please help me? Even if you know what one looks like, a description would be very helpful.
There was a pile of them in my building’s doorway, some days ago. I’m not sure how to describe them. Roughly, I would guess they are around 35 centimeters long, 20 centimeters large, and perhaps 7 or 8 centimeters thick (but it would depends on the area…in a rural area, they would be much thinner). They have a white cover, with a smal picture on it. I’m not sure what kind of infos you’re searching for exactly, and since I didn’t have a phonebook at home for a very looong time, I can’t really describe more accurately…Just in case it would be of any interest, there’s one phone book for each french “departement”. So, there would be the name (and the code number) of the departement printed on the cover.
I couldn’t find a picture of one, either (though I must admit I didn’t search for a long time). By the way, the picture in the previous post is the inside of the yellow pages, which include smal advertizing, as you can see. The inside of the white pages is three or four rows of names, with the adresses, followed by the phone number…what else would you expect?
Inside, there’s a list of phone number for each “commune” (the smallest french admnistrative division…they are roughly the former parishes…size ranges from a village and some hamlets for a total of 50 people to Paris). So, you would have the “communes” listed in alphabetical order and printed in white on a black background, and under each such heading, the list of the people living in this commune with their phone number. I’m not sure what else I could say…That’s a weird question…
