Yes; Trump is a complete narcissist who cares nothing for the law and has a lifetime of not being told “no”. Constitutionally, he can’t run again; the Constitution is not Trump however, and therefore is meaningless to him. So he’ll at least float the possibility of another term because the legality of it doesn’t matter to him, all that matters is if it’s one of the very rare times somebody will tell him “no” and make it stick.
I think it’s all just opening the door for the next Trump wannabe. Any republican will urge the MAGAts with “I will continue all of his policies! And I’m younger! I’ll last longer!” Trump will support him-- with his mouth, NEVER money-- and blather at the newcomer’s campaign, on FOX news, etc.
At first I thought just the three but Tiffany will turn 35 three weeks before the election. Time flies in the dystopia.
I can’t see any of them going anywhere as a candidate, though.
Against whom?
Ivanka has chosen to drop out of the public eye during his father’s second term, and I suspect that she wants to have nothing more to directly do with government anymore.
Don Jr. and Eric have both continued to ride dad’s coattails, but as much as they share their father’s greediness and toxic, asshole nature, neither of them have even a fraction of whatever strange charisma Donald has ridden to where he is now.
I don’t know as much about Tiffany; she seems to mostly be a social-media personality at this point.
Above all else that explains his bizarre appeal, Trump was a celebrity. His children are nobodies. He’s been building his bullshit brand for decades. Millions watched The Apprentice and bought into his successful tycoon/boss-man persona. Donald the business man was a dumpster fire, but the show was a hit.
If a Democrat won the 2028 election, could I see emperor Donald declaring the election fraudulent and imposing martial law? Of course. Here’s hoping the state of his health prevents anything like that.
What does it all mean? It means he, a convicted felon who was barely saved from actual incarceration because he is in the highest political office in the country, realizes that he needs to remain in office so he doesn’t end up getting a striped suntan. It also means his followers, the great mass of humanity I have often referred to on this site as magaflatearthers because they don’t think out their positions, or think themselves into those positions for that matter, adore him and want him to not suffer so they will repeat that campaign slogan, firmly believing that somehow the law will be changed on his whim to permit him to remain in office. This is why they keep voting for those whom he gives his imprimatur to. The aforementioned human mass vote for those they believe will further this particular aim.
In the Old Country they call it kavorka.
If what you say is true, how do you explain his obsession with monuments to himself. Sure if a Dem takes over in 2029, the first thing that happens is that the room to hold his balls comes down, his name comes off the Kennedy Center, the Arc de Trump comes down, but maybe he doesn’t believe that. He does seem obsessed with his future standing.
He wants them done now, so he can see them, and hear the adulation of his fans over them. At least IMO.
I’m given to understand that the tarps are still up and my fear is great that the next attempt to get his name on it is going to involve chisels.
I think he knows he can’t be granted a third term but instead is figuring out how much power he can cling to when he’s out. Be it by blackmailing other members of his own party, taking the maga faithful voting block he controls and offering it to other politicians in turn for favors (keep the Epstein files shut and I’ll hand you the maga vote), being a louder more visible piece of shit than he is now if that’s possible, etc.
There are a lot of institutions outside of the POTUS that carry a lot of power in controlling the U.S. and I believe Trump intends on becoming one of his own making.
Welcome to the world of the MAGA “joke”: I f you take him seriously on this or just about any other matter and oppose him they will claim that it was only a joke and laugh at our foolishness because we didn’t “get it”. If, on the other hand, we ignore him they will run that ball straight to the end zone and laugh because we let them get away with it.
I think it is harming him. I feel Trump musing about the possibility of illegally staying in office for a third term just four months before the midterm elections will further motivate people to vote against Republican candidates.
Every time he talks about getting a 3rd term he “normalizes” the idea just a tiny bit more.
He’s deliberating repeating the same words about him getting a third term so people feel a bit more comfortable when it happens. This is how meglomanjacs and fascist dictators work. The first time they pose bizarre solutions people reject it out of hand, the 30th time they pose bizarre solutions people begin to think it’s normal.
If Trump has a plan to break the law in 2028, he isn’t doing himself any favors by giving us two year’s advance warning.
That’s what I was talking about. It is theoretically possible for Trump to legally run for a third term. But it would require a new Constitutional Amendment to revoke the 22nd Amendment.
I’ve thought about this a lot, and, well, “Bingo”.
No. He’s agitating his supporters and the office-holders in his thrall to get moving on making it so he can stay in office.
What’s the plan they’re working on? Enacting a new amendment to overturn the 22nd? Or organize troops to seize power and proclaim Trump President-for-Life?
And either case, how does announcing the goal beforehand help advance the plan? Wouldn’t any secret plan benefit from maintaining the element of surprise?
If I was planning on robbing a bank, I wouldn’t announce it beforehand. That would just encourage local banks to hire more guards and increase their security.
