It’s already difficult enough to change dietary habits and thinking of it in terms of deprivation will only make it more difficult. I don’t like to think of any food as being unhealthy. There’s nothing inherently unhealthy about a hamburger, Coca-Cola, or hot dogs provided you don’t overindulge or have any underlying health issues.
I agree that rarely are foods inherently unhealthy, but most people do have an underlying health issue which relates to food, which is being overweight. If someone is in the healthy body fat range, then eating these foods may not really contribute to health issues. But if someone has much greater body fat than is healthy, eating these kinds of foods will generally exacerbate the problems with excessive body fat.
I might compare it to smoking in moderation. If someone has lung cancer, then there is no such thing as smoking in moderation for that person. But a person with healthy lungs could smoke occasionally without causing significant health problems. So when it comes to food, the “in moderation” criteria should take into account how much excessive body fat the person has. The higher the body fat, the less those kinds of foods should be consumed.
Sure. I made it up. I think it’s pretty obviously nonsense just like my advice that eating 74 hot dogs in a meal is moderation.
