What does our Money go towards?

Maybe this has been posted already. I already read why the site is slow in another thread. I was wondering how our money is spent. 15$ * 60,000 people = 900,000$
How much is divided amongst moderators vs maintenence? How many moderators are there anyways? Also how much revenue would be earned from the ads at the bottom of the page now?

I’m simply curious

Oh my goodness…

Thread title should be what does our “Money” goes towards?

Hopefully a grammar check in the future :smack:

The number of paying members is nowhere near 60,000. That number reflects all of the people who have ever registered for the SDMB. Most of these people date from before we went to a pay-to-play site, or from guests who only registered for a trial membership.

The actual number of paying members is more in the 3,000-4,000 range, last I heard.

Corrected your thread title, moved it to ATMB, which is where questions about this message board go.

I know that personally I take home about 10K from this gig. I don’t know about the rest of the mods. I’m hanging on just to become an Admin, which is where the really big bucks are. And they just sit on their asses all day, too. Life just ain’t fair…and another thing, …

To be fair, sitting on one’s ass can be a struggle. Just ask SkipMagic.

Does that include the endorsement money?

I’ve checked with both R. J. Reynolds and Johnnie Walker, but neither of them seem to want to use a picture of me moderating with a cig hanging out my mouth and a glass of scotch in my hand. Go figure.

A pretender-cum-lately. We have detectives watching his every move. I’ve personally seen modfest pics where he is doing stuff that is currently under review by the staff. I can say no more.

Best line I’ve read today!

On the (sigh) off-chance that this is being asked seriously, then:
(a) Yes, it has been asked before, about ten zillion times. No, I exaggerate, probably only eight zillion times.
(b) There are only around 3,000 paid subscribers; the 60,000 number includes everyone who ever stopped by for a month, or even for an hour – like the spammers who stop by to post one thread offering a great deal on cheap neurosurgery in Nigeria or something.
© The money goes to the CHICAGO READER, a privately-held company, and it goes to paying for the technical support, hardware, etc. Moderators and Administrators are not paid positions – well, OK, we get our subscription comp’d, but sheeeesh.

And a coffee mug–each. Pretty damned fancy coffee mugs, too, with handles and everything.

Damn! You got handles? You musta been in the first wave.

Me, all I got was mugged. No coffee involved at all.

Hey, you’re the one who entered “J. Fred” on the “real name” line of the Mod application.

So on the (vibrant exhalation) ON-chance of Quasimodal being a troll, you’ll act offended. Even the Admins could do well to follow the spirit of the rules here, not just the letters.

I thought my TV stardom would impress everyone.

I thought we were going to rig something up to give him a shock whenever he does this? Whatever happened with that?

OK, OK, so you were Bobby Brady.

Everyone knoiws that, give it a rest. Sheesh.

:stuck_out_tongue:

:dubious:

But did they scrub the old dried-up coffee stains out of them before they passed them on to you?

Way I heard it, his tweeness shorted it out.
