What does "owning the cons" look like?

Since the Trump era began with the escalator ride in 2015, the Republicans and conservatives have been motivated largely by an ethos of “own the libs.”

Now, I’m not saying libs are necessarily motivated the opposite way, although of course there always will be some. But what does “owning the cons” look like, if it were to be done?

Enacting universal healthcare wouldn’t really be an “own,” since conservatives would actually benefit from that - ditto for higher taxes on the rich, which would still leave maybe 90% of conservatives unaffected.

Widespread gun confiscation? Might work, although 20-30% of Democrats also own guns, too. (Maybe a law that says only rural guns will be confiscated?)

Taxing churches might do, as would also a rural-based tax system (ie. income tax rates will be 10% on city-dwellers and 40% for ruralites)

Nationalize the entire health care industry and turn it into a branch of the military.

Restrict federal funds such that no county can receive any if they do not have abortion services available.

Tax plastic so that purchasing items in plastic packaging is prohibitively expensive.

IMO, defeating the cons at election time would be satisfactory.

Having Trumps house of cards come crashing down and not taking contol of either the house or Senate would be a sure fire owning if the cons. That and a backlash from the Supreme Courts overturning of Roe v Wade in the States would be another sign of owning them.

Pretty much anything that brings back actual democracy where the people actually get what the majority wants qualifies.

“Owning the cons” would be making their lives better by passing policies that benefit them despite their stringent objection. Get them good healthcare, support when they need it, tax the rich they spend all day worshipping so you can make society better. It’s simultaneously humane and would enrage them.

And you’re the good guy for doing it. You haven’t resorted to their level of trying to hurt those you hate and you made the world a better place.

Owning the cons would be all the races of the world existing in harmony, world peace and an end to inequality. Owning the cons looks a lot like what Jesus wanted.

mandatory abortions for all.

If you’re not choosing your actions based on obstructionism and cutting off your nose to spite your face, it’s kind of hard to “own” the other side.

Telling the truth about reality.

Mandatory vasectomies for all!

The cons get owned all the time by reality. “Ima gonna own the libs by refusing to get COVID shots”, then die horribly from COVID, as can be seen on the Herman Cain Award on Reddit. They say “Global warming is a hoax, so ima gonna buy a huge gas guzzling truck, and drive around with a Trump flag! That’ll own the libs!” while their city is drown by a thousand-year flood.

I suspect they are also going to get owned yet again by reality, with their “election integrity” hijinks preventing many Republicans from voting, along with the targeted voters.

Although is it truly getting owned if your last dying breath from your Covid infested lungs is to still deny the disease even exists? I would think that some form of realization of your errors was necessary.

Not quite. It’s certainly more satisfying to libs to have the dying con do a deathbed recantation. “I wuz wrong” is always fun to hear from your opposition.

But in a different sense, it’s also satisfying to watch them carry their delusion unto their final breath. It demonstrates just how severely defective their worldview is. or how defective the thought process is that cannot change despite the overwhelming personal evidence. And thereby libs and their more realistic worldview shine by an even larger margin over those benighted fools.

Or so it seems.

Agree. This whole stupid idea of “owning” the who-evers is just… stupid. And unkind, childish, self-defeating and no way to conduct policy or behave in the world. I don’t do anything in life with the first intention of pissing off somebody else.

The ‘own’ would be just beat them with facts and get them out of office. Let them crawl back under their rocks from which they came.

The own would be including more required classes in school about how the government is actually supposed to work. And not their deluded fantasies.

The founders did a pretty good job on the constitution, but could not imagine how nutso some people could get. So, they did not include sedition, insurrection or an attempted coup as a type of treason. IF such ideas where even brought up, most would have said that it’s a given, trying to overthrow the government is sort of a no-no.

If what Trump has done happened 230 years ago, he would have rightfully been punished. It MIGHT be a side note in history books about a kook.
