All of these years I have never understood the symbolism of the pink panther. I know the pink panther was a pink diamond in the first movie, but the pink cat?
In the first movie, the diamond had a minute flaw that resembled a pink panther, so the diamond was called The Pink Panther. Er, in case you weren’t aware, the panther is a species of cat (I’m not sure how much to assume here). Inspector Clouseau was a minor character in the first movie, but he captured audiences’ fancy, so the sequels were centered around him. The diamond didn’t figure in the sequels, but the Pink Panther name was familiar, so it was used for the sequels (except the first one, which was called A Shot In The Dark).
The diamond did figure in at least one of the sequels (revenge of…, i think)

Also, because of the name of the movie, the opening graphics of the original featured a cartoon pink panther (this was in the days when many comedy films were prefaced by cartoon graphics) - which eventually spawned the cartoon series.
Okay, since this thread is going to draw people who are interested in the Pink Panther series, maybe someone can identify this scene for me. It may not be from a Pink Panther movie, but here goes anyway.
Guy is going to take his chic European sports car down the long driveway of an estate. For some reason, he is wearing pajamas, a robe, and slippers. He gets into the car and pulls his leg in, leaving one slipper on the ground, closes the door, heads down the driveway, stops the car, reverses, opens the door, sticks his leg out, puts the slipper back on, pulls his leg in, closes the door, puts the car in gear, and drives off again.
