Is there a description of the throne of Gondor in the Lord of the Rings?
Tolkien described pretty much everything, but the closest he comes to describing the throne in Return of the King is:
In one of JRRT’s early drafts, the throne of Ondor is described thus:
“Many-footed throne of gold” was soon changed to “winged crown and throne of gold”.
Also, JRRT actually designed a drawing of the throne, described as
which was simplified and used as the cover of the 1969 deluxe LOTR here: Throne of Gondor.
The interpretation of the throne of Gondor in the movie “The Return of King” can be seen here:
There is a flip-out footrest, and a compartment in the side with a barrel of Butterbur’s best ale.
Also one of those vibratey massagey things.
I prefer the white marble version, but will go with the book version.
Another view of the throne from the LOTR films. Looks like they made it plain (though tall) and put the elaborate designs (white tree, seven stars, etc) on the wall behind the throne.
Isn’t it made of one solid ruby?
It looks like this.
FYI, I’m painting this miniatureof the throne and Denethor. I just want mine to conform to the book as much as possible.
