What Does WPWN61 mean on my computer

Every once in awhile I get a sudden notice that something like WPWN61 has detected, I think it says, an error and is shutting down “this application.” Then after while something else comes on the screen and says I can press ctr alt delete “again,” (but I didn’t press them before)
or else I can press any key to continue. Since all I want to do is continue, I press any key and then I just get the other notice again. What is this wpwen61 thing and how can I get rid of it from appearing anymore. Also, wy does the screen sometimes say there has been a “fatal” error?
3) Once in awhile the computer won’t turn itself off. The message just says it is now closing and then the usual orange letters don’t come on that I can now turn off the buttons. It just sits there saying it is closing down no matter how long I wait, so I turn off the buttons.
Then the next time I turn it on, it says something was done wrong, I forget the actual words, and
now something is scanning. Little green squares across the bottom light up as if something is moving along to the right, and eventually this goes away and things start up like they are supposed to. Why wonj’t it turn off when I turn it off and why does it lie about saying it is turning off? Otherwise it works fine.

WPWIN is Word Perfect for Windows. Did you ever have WP installed? If so, and you no longer use it, I’d first check Programs to see if it appears there and use Uninstall to get rid of it. You can also go to Add/Remove programs in your Control Panel and remove any remnants there, too. Maybe you had it at one point and didn’t remove it properly.

Are you using Windows 98? What you describe is a very common problem with that OS, and can be hard to troubleshoot. Microsoft has some patches available at Windows Update. If they don’t fix it you could try going to Start|Run, typing msconfig, going to the Startup tab and selectively disabling items to narrow down the cause of the problem. If you disable everything, reboot, and it still won’t shut down then there’s likely a driver problem.
