What else could I have done??

Nope, I still think the OP was acting like a hysterical busybody.

And if anyone needed to get the cops or CPS called on them, it is the person who tries to convince children to get into a car with them.

I could be wrong about this, but I’m not.

I called my sister, who is a social worker for a local police dept(director of victims assistance actually), and I described the situation to her. She said that absolutely that CPS should have been called and that it would be a criminal offense to send send a 6 year old alone to walk to school in that circumstance. She said that even in states where there is no specific age for leaving a child unatended, that leaveing a 6 year old to fend for them selves on the side of a busy street to walk to school would be considered neglect.

Oh, and Jodi, my apologies, she said that many states do not specify a certain age, but consider the maturity of the child when leaving them home alone…It wouldnt matter in this case mind you, but at home anyway. Some states it is set at around 8-10 years old.
