When I used to be a hockey goalie, I made a save falling to my right and landing smack on my hip where there was little protection afforded by my padding. Hurt like hell. The team doctor said that I sustained a hip pointer and tried to explain what that was exactly, but, in my stupor, I don’t recall what was said.
Can anyone explain it to me in layman’s English?
This seems to answer the OP:

Sounds pretty painful!
Sure. You banged the top of your pelvis, the top of your hip, the “iliac crest”.
Hey, a kewl diagram, red arrow and everything!

And the “Hip Pointer Home Page”.

I love the Internet.
Preview: Dang! Must learn to type faster. And hey, I can’t get the links to make, either. Wubba-wubba…
A hip pointer is a bruise, chip, or break of the hip bone, or a deep bruise of the surrounding muscle.
Usually, it’s just a bruise as a break is referred to by the medical term “broken hip”
I agree, they hurt like hell. I once had BOTH hips…uhhh…“pointed” when I was sandwiched by two neanderthals in a football game.
Just thought I’d help as best I can with the links.
Here’s the first link, provided by MalachiConstant.
Here’s DDG’s first link.
And here’s the Hip Pointer Home Page.
Now these worked in Preview, so if they don’t when I post it’s not because I’m an incompetent boob. I’m an incompetent boob for a variety of other reasons, but not failed links in this post.
How did you do it Crunchy? No matter what I did I couldn’t get that link to link!
thanks all!!
not exactly easy English, but close enuff.
I have no idea what the difference is between my post and yours. I clicked on “Quote” to see what you had typed, but I don’t see anything wrong. Since DDG did it too, it may have been some temporary glitch in url parsing, but that’s really just a WAG.
The problem was in the end-url tags. In each of them, there is a space character where it doesn’t belong; in Malachi’s and in DDG’s second, after the /, and in DDG’s first, before the l.
I didn’t even notice that reading the post. Clicking on “Quote” though, the url parsing looks right, not the same as in the post. That’s weird.
vBulletin inserts spaces into long character strings to keep people from posting stuff to make the page scroll. Looks as if that “feature” caught the url coding.
