Roy Kinnear very nearly died during the film too. He fell from a horse and sustained injuries that he died from the next day. His son looks a lot like him though.
Well, it sounds like they’ve unified the rights, and there’s plenty of canonical Conan to build the film around, but who knows what may go wrong. Fingers crossed!
Note, @Telemark’s link includes mentions of many other classic Arnold roles being discussed for legacy reboots including those from Commando and Predator.
The first two movies (and the Red Sonja movie) weren’t built around Howard’s writings – why would you expct another movie to do so?
As I’ve said for years, none of the Conan films were adapted from Robert E. Howard’s actual stories (they used the basic idea of his big, tough barbarian, but they didn’t actually adapt the stories. And I argue that they really missed the gist of Conan’s character). I’d love to have seen The Tower of the Elephant or Rogues in the House put up on the screen. Maybe they could adapt The Hour of the Dragon/Conan the Conqueror as a King Conan movie, but I’ll bet they won’t.
No arguments - I enjoy CtB (especially the soundtrack) in it’s own right, but it’s not a good Conan movie in terms of a faithful adaptation of the source. And yeah, I own the “complete” editions (Del Rey edition) and there are plenty of stories worthy of adaptation.
Looks like a National Treasure 3 is in the works with the original director in Nicolas Cage, but no confirmation on the other stars of the first 2 movies. Although it seems like they will be included.
