Not sure if this subject has been covered before (I did a search-really), but what are some movies that you wish had sequels made? One I can think of is “Master & Commander: The Far Side of the World”; great action and I think Crowe nailed Jack Aubrey from the “Aubrey/Maturin” novels. There is a lot of great source material - it’s a shame that more of the series didn’t get made.
Hollywood seems to regularly screw up getting a series off the ground - Master & Commander being one example.
Others I can think of:
Jack Reacher
Sahara - Clive Cussler, Dirk Pitt
In each case, there are dozens of books in the series. Hollywood made one movie, it didn’t make the kind of money they were looking for, so no more movies! It’s a shame, really.
Master & Commander is one of my favorite movies, and one of my favorite theater memories. 100% agree.
Though the movie wasn’t very good., Sky Captain could possibly be good for a continuation. I’d love to see more action films set in a 1930’s time with interesting technology and Art Deco styling.
Jack Reacher: Never Go Back is currently in development.
Considering the lead actor in no way resembles the character in the book, could have had something to do with the resistance by fans of the novels to go see the movie.
Or not, seeing as how they’re working on a sequel.
For me:
Seconding “Sahara.”
The Rocketeer.
I haven’t watched Master & Commander since I saw it in the theater, but I kind of want to now. I’m glad it showed up in this thread (and reminded me of the time I did see it). I will have to look for a copy now.

John Carter – A movie that was scuttled by Disney internal politics, which pretty much guarantees that it won’t get a sequel. I’ve got a T-shirt with a mockup poster for John Carter and the Gods of Mars.
The Incredibles.
For the love of GOD, why hasn’t there been a sequel?
If ever there was a movie made with the express purpose of launching a sequel, it was Unbreakable.
They spend the whole movie building up a superhero and arch-villain and it ends in puff of vapor.
I’m still waiting for Buckaroo Banzai Against the World Crime League.
Given recent news, I’d say Leonard Part 7 will now never get made.
I liked the Rocketeer, but the way they wrapped it up it seems like it was never intended to be anything more than a 1-off movie. Besides, these days it would probably come across as a Ye Olden Days version of Iron Man.
Ivan the Terrible, Part 2.
Eisenstein ticked off Stalin, so Part 3 was never finished, and most of the footage was destroyed.
Someone should try to convince Putin that Russia needs more art films.
I would love to see more John Carter movies. And while they are at it, they should do Amtor, Pellucidar, and Kaspak, as well. Would modern audiences tolerate a Tarzan series?
Beau Geste has been filmed several times. But Beau Sabreur has only been filmed once (now lost), and Beau Ideal has never been filmed at all.
They should do a sequel to The Lone Ranger, with Armie Hammer as the Green Hornet, and Johnny Depp as Kato.
No, the way they wrapped it up left room for a sequel – Peevy has the plans for the rocket. (In the graphic novel, Hughes liked the changes he’d made in repairing the unit, so he could definitely rebuild it). If they wanted to, they could do a sequel. Dave Stevens himself continued the adventures in his graphic novel, and other people have done stories for subsequent issues. There’s certainly scope there for more Rocketeer.
They’re making one.

Galaxy Quest. Invasion of the Body Snatchers.
As much as I love this movie (it is one of my all time favorites), I have to disagree about a sequel.
The gimmicks have been blown, so a sequel would be a rehash of the first story (actors needing to play their roles in real life). And they wrapped up both sides of the story well: the actors went on to a revived show, the aliens now have the confidence to continue on their own.
This is true, HOWEVER, what if the characters ended up really becoming space explorers. I think there have been movies or tv series that have taken such a turn?
