Ketchup.
Offal of any kind, with the exception of Jewish food. You can do delicious things with chicken liver.
Blood-anything
Squid/Octopus
Black licorice
Other than that, I’ll eat just about anything. I might not like it, but I can eat it if I have to. The above are the dishes I would “walk out of my boss’s dinner party and risk getting fired” rather than eat.
Organ meat
Olives
Canned tuna or salmon
Ketchup and mayonnaise
I’m guessing I’d say no to some of the more exotic things that people have mentioned, but the odds of having an opportunity to say no are slim, so I’m not going to spend much time pondering yes or no.
I can stomach, but usually avoid, **Miracle Whip **and mustard. I don’t like okra by itself. And I have to assume that anything labeled spicy is too hot for me to handle. Also cilantro usually tastes like rotten meat, although as I’ve gotten older the effect has been milder. So if there’s only a little, it’s not as big a deal.
Meat.
Cauliflower.
Looks like bleached brains, tastes like evil.
Organ meats.
Any kind of mushroom.
Reptiles or amphibians.
Bugs.
Pretty much. However, I might draw the line at the live seafood stuff (well, except for oysters and things of that nature) in the other thread. Balut I would try at least once. I grew up on organ meats and blood sausages, so none of that kind of stuff is a big deal for me. I’m not a fan of all organ meats (like, I’m not really one for kidney), but liver is awesome and blood sausage can be fantastic. I suppose it helps that I grew up eating Polish kiszka and loving it before knowing exactly what it was.
The list is way too long. But a lot of things others have said would be on it.
Many things that I have not tried. Of the things I have tried:
Any melon, including watermelon
Unseasoned cucumbers - they must be pickled or heavily seasoned for me to eat
Liver and other assorted organ meats
Cole slaw, potato salad, macaroni salad, chicken salad, or any other “salad” with mayonnaise
I think I’d try anything served to me in a fine dining tasting menu situation.
Other than that unlikely scenario I will not eat okra on it’s own. Cooked in a gumbo or other concoction is fine, but never just okra, fried or otherwise. No thanks.
I do try hard to avoid anything that’s hot just for the sake of being hot. (Insanity peppers, and the like).
Oatmeal…as in the hot cereal. I love oatmeal cookies, but hot cereal, any kind of hot cereal, is to barf. There is no good reason why, since I love savory things of similar texture, but there is just.something.about.oatmeal.
Raw fish.
Raw oysters.
That’s pretty much it for now, as far as ‘things that are generally consumed in a western diet.’ I’m sure there are things in third world countries and other cultures that are crazy bizarre that would make me not want to eat them, but as far as things that are generally available in the US, that’s about it.
I really, really dislike olives (by themselves), but I love olive oil and I don’t go crazy if I get a bit of olive from my wife’s side of the pizza.
Coconut
Cole slaw (the vegetable components are fine. The slaw itself, no)
Green bell peppers (I love other colors, but I hate the green ones)
Cilantro. Icky stuff.
nvm
Sushi. I’m with Terry Bradshaw… sushi is bait.
tomatoes
mushrooms
broccoli
asparagus
spinach
collards
brussell sprouts
corn
green beans
carrots
peas
really anything that is not meat, cheese or potatoes.
Gizzards.
