What free software do you find safe that will join two or more Pictures? I’m trying to find an application shorter/friendlier than MS Paint (that works) or a summary of Paint’s. Free Gimp and Free irfanview have been recommended. Are there basic versions that will join Pics but not download other applications? Plus, version or from sites NAV will recommend as Safe Downloads?
Gimp is very powerful, but, wow, it is tough to learn. It has tons of nifty features, but Paint is so much more intuitive, and much easier to use.
Paint, in the past, didn’t have a “zoom out” feature, so pasting really big files was horrible. You had to do it in chunks, and aligning the chunks was a monster. But with the zoom out in the latest version, life is good.
IrfanView is good, but may have too many unnecessary functions for novice users. Photoscape is a good, simple image editing utility with an easy-to-understand UI that will join image files.
If you want a free, no-frills bit of software that automatically creates panoramas for you, I haven’t found anything better than AutoStitch: http://www.cs.bath.ac.uk/brown/autostitch/autostitch.html
The interface is a bit klunky, but it’s really as simple as selecting a bunch of files, and letting it get on with doing its thing. The free version had a few very annoying limitations which were recently removed, so it’s even better now!
Panavue is a very good program if the images are the same very easy to use, it was quite expensive at one time, then ninety nine dollars, now its freeware.
