A (male, of course) friend of mine has a ring featuring a large oval of native silver (silver with some veins and inclusions, cut and polished) in a silver setting. Very masculine but now what I think of as a traditional “man’s ring” (onyx and diamond, chunky gold, etc.).
I have a blue sapphire ring and have received a number of compliments when I wear it.
Amber is very soft, and doesn’t make a good ringstone.
Black sapphire and tiger eye both make good men’s rings. I’m not keen on jewelry myself, but I have worn both. I might go for a nice large opal (my birthstone) if I found one, too. Opals come in such variety, though, that finding just the right one isn’t easy.
I have cufflinks in:
black shapphire
topaz
peridot
malachite
lapis lazuli
What’s the thing that’s like ruby, but blue? Sapphire? I think that it’d look good. A nice, deep blue. I don’t know if I’d like turquoise on a man, though.
<shrugs> Like I’d know. I hate wearing jewelry so much I don’t even have a watch.
No gold: silver, platinum, titanium, steel, but gold looks tacky. I like amethysts myself; I have a nice silver and amethyst ring.
I don’t like most jewelry on men. Cuff links are fine, as is a tie tack, and I suppose a wedding ring is ok. But it has to be smooth metal, smooth stones, and no glitz. Glitzy stuff reminds me of Hollywood producer types with big cigars and “fuck you” attitudes. I hate the term “bling” and I hate, even more, the “bling” look.
Very much a personal decision, with cultural factors that will affect that decision. I think the style of the jewelry is more important that the gemstone itself, although I admit avoiding pearls and pink stones is probably safer.
