I was going through some old stuff and found a gold chain that an ex-girlfriend had given me. It was a gold dog tag with my initials on it. I wore it for years and only took it off when a different girlfriend made fun of me for it.
I confess, I actually liked it, but haven’t worn anything else like it for years since.
I’ve always liked gold and black onyx. My class ring was like that. I have thought of getting another, but one that was not dedicated to my college.
Ladies, what do you think? Rings on a man? Neck chains?
I’m from Spain, where class rings are “something you see in movies,” and have no problem with guy wearing jewelry so long as it’s tasteful (as opposed to “chuloputa cubano” style, which is what Snoop Doggy Dog wears). It is quite common here to have a gold chain with a medal engraved with your initials and DoB: you usually get those as a present from your godparents on your baptism. I’ve seen them in Italy and France and on people from Latin America as well. Also “blood type” medals, although the guys from the ambulance will type you anyway.
I think anybody wearing 5 fat chains looks stupid, be it male or female. It’s like those guys who dance with a hand holding their balls - they always leave me wondering, are they afraid that they won’t be able to find it again, or that the rest of the world won’t notice they exist?
Hubby (when he was fiancee) always wore 3-4 sterling silver rings on various fingers, which I found totally sexy. Also, I could wear one of them! After we were married, he found an incredible hand-made necklace at the Eiteljorg Indian Market. I absolutely love it.
But dripping with gold chains, bracelets, and rings is just disgusting. And I’ve never really liked earrings on guys.
Absolutely, yes, but it depends on the man and the jewelry. I don’t go for the bling-bling chains with huge pendants or pinky ring look. I like men in jewelry with a little edge. Silver is better than gold. Recently, I saw a hemp-type necklace with a really cool ivory pendant. Wouldn’t have though so, but it looked great.
Tasteful, simple jewelry is best for men. Women, too, come to think of it. A plain but substantial gold or silver chain around the neck, a ring or two. Earrings, maybe. I really like a man with pierced ears for some reason. I’ve seen a lot of guys wearing figaro chains around their necks (some small links and a large link in a repeating pattern–3+1 seems to be most common) and I think that looks great.
Depends on the man and the jewelery - a man with great hands can benefit from wearing a ring, which would look totally wrong on another person. Keep it to a minimum in terms of both design and amount that you wear, more than one ring on a hand for example is likely to be too much. But at the end of the day - if you like it? Wear it.
There are always exceptions, but I generally think that a man’s everyday jewelry shouldn’t be anything more than a wedding ring. I am sorry that cufflinks are so out of favor. And stickpins.
I’m not a big fan of jewelry on men. Wedding rings? Hell yes. A nice understated watch? Yes. A simple chain/pendant, usually mostly hidden under the shirt? Also yes. And yet, there are some men who can wear much more and still make it look good. I think one of the keys to this is not flashing the jewelry around like a newly engaged girl does with her engagment ring. If the guy acts totally unconcious of the jewelry, it goes over better with me.
I wear a thumb-sized (inasmuch as it fits neatly around my thumb), heavily corroded Green Lantern ring on a necklace made of red gimp with two large, very noticeable knots in it around my neck, because it no longer really fits any of my fingers. Is that bad?
I love it. I think little hoop earrings are beyond cute on guys. If one is wearing a tasteful bracelet and/or necklace it only make him sexier. My ex wore and owned more jewelry than I ever did and I still think he was the hottest thing ever.
Wedding rings always look nice on a man (although of course it’s unfortunate if the man is nice-looking, too ), and I love the look of a big, heavy, silver/gold/platinum wristwatch–no Rolexes!
Other than that, I don’t like to see jewelry on men…
…although I must confess that if you find me a very attractive rapper, my heart goes pitter-patter at the sight of, um, “bling.”
