What gift would be the ultimate for you?

Ground rules: world peace and the end to hunger, greed, pollution, disease, etc. are fine and noble dreams, but no one can write a check to make any of those things happen. What we’re sharing here is something that a mysterious benefactor could give you that would fulfill your wildest dream or fantasy. It might be your own tropical island, the car of your dreams, a live-in massage therapist, or the vacation of a lifetime. And it’s all about YOU! Just for a moment, allow yourself to think only of yourself - a little fantasy of self-indulgence can be fun!

I’ll go first.

I would love a pottery studio. I have one, sorta, in the basement, but I share the space with the furnace, the water heater, the water tank, and miscellaneous stuff on storage shelves. But my Super Secret Santa would give me a separate building with high ceilings, lots of windows, all the cool equipment that I’d love to have but could never afford, and space for it all so I don’t need to move things around when I want to work. Self-cleaning would be nice, too, but I won’t be greedy. Bonus for a variety of clays and glazes that are delivered regularly as I need them.

How about you?

One of those space tourist trips to the International Space Station. I would even brush up on my Russian.

A farmette, about 10 acres, with a nice ranch house (not too big), a barn with stalls, pastures, and indoor and outdoor riding arenas. With all the equipment and knowledge to keep the place working. I wouldn’t mind a horse or two or three to go with. And a Shetland pony and a goat.

I want to convert my garage to a giant, professional kitchen, and then build a new garage in front of it. I figure minimum ante there is about $200K. Santa? Are you listening?

I’d want my dream clarinet. That would be a Selmer Paris rosewood E-flat contra-alto clarinet (also known as an E-flat contrabass.) I played one in college (it belonged to the school) and it had the most gorgeous sound ever.

I’d also like a gym membership so that I could do weight training and actually be able to lift my new clarinet. Those things are heavy.

A farm with a lot of land and a house with a big wrap around porch. All the veggies and fruit I grow would be distributed to the soup kitchens in Detroit. I guess I would need a bigass truck too.

I’d like to update my crap/craft room with big windows, better lighting and better storage solutions for the books, yarn, beads and fabric. New cabinets/workspaces with a big wall mounted TV that doubles as a computer monitor for perusing Ravelry. A deep, comfy chair with short arms for kntting and a space to spread out the quilting frame.

Fully furnished Beach House

A Tesla Model X and a garage to charge it in.

A Spitfire with an airstrip.

I half expected someone to want a live-in housekeeper and cook. Or at least a Housework Fairy to tend to the most hated chores…

$5,000-10,000 so I could record an album. A good one (i.e., in a professional studio with professional instrumentalists). The money would have to only be able to be used for recording, though, so I don’t find other things to do with it and never make the album.

I already have a bunch of possible album names.

ETA: ^^ username/last line combo.

I’d like to buy a giant chunk of land that’s slated for development, preserve it all, and use part of it to create a big ol’ wildlife sanctuary. Several giant chunks of land slated for development, while we’re at it.

Similarly to peedin, I’d like my own ranch, maybe out in the Hill Country area of central Texas, near the Marble Falls area, with chickens and goats and a donkey or two. Screw the riding arenas, though – we’re hittin’ the trails! I’d sow wildflower seeds everywhere as we rode along.

The ranch could be next door to the wildlife sanctuary.

That’s definitely part of mine. If I could get the rest of my house-fixing done, have enough income to stay home instead of working, and have somebody to clean up after me, that would be super-awesome.

An expertly designed workshop constructed on my property with top-of-the-line tools, space for lumber, air filtration, etc. The whole works.

I’ll just take a nice house with the usual accompaniments like a maid, a cook, a driver and a butler.

I would like a house, not too large - three bedrooms, nice kitchen, wired for sound all throughout, on a decent plot of treed land… and an indoor lap pool. Oh, and a pool cleaner for life, so all I would ever have to do is dive in.

A little bit of land with a creek and about a half dozen houses on it, so family could live there and some could be used as retreats for artists of all ilk.

Nothing says ‘I love you’ like cold cash.

A cash grant that would be enough so that if I became disabled I could live in a really nice place. Or, if not disabled, just old, I’d be able to afford a high end nursing home.
