Don’t know if that is the correct spelling but anyway, there was a product introduced in the mid '80s called Simplesse. It was a form of fake fat. But unlike olestra, it couldn’t be used for cooking.
They made an ice cream with it that was pretty good. So what happened to it?
If it has the same side effects as Olestra the problem can be answered in 2 words. “Anal leakage”.

on which it’s stated that Simplesse is listed on ingredients labels as “whey protein concentrate”. The page has a 1998 copyright date on it, so Monsanto was apparently still making it as of last year.
