Why aren’t we taking more about the incredibly profuse pathological liar (and criminal) George Santos, about to be sworn in as a Republican congressman from New York, with the GOP’s blessing? I found only a couple mentions, in this thread. Fascinating story that resonates with so many themes Dopers love to discuss.
Am I missing something?
I think any member is allowed to start a thread…
I was tempted to do it for Santos, but I don’t care enough – he’s going to be seated and forgotten. It’s not like the Republicans are going to investigate one of their own. They have been totally silent on the issue.
The lying is par for the course among them these days, but where did he get all his money?
Good points. I’m so used to being ninja’d when intending to start a thread, I almost forgot how. I’ll start one now.
Cool. Can you leave a link here?
Don’t forget to include this little factoid about his lawyer’s response, which included this gem:
“As Winston Churchill famously stated, “You have enemies? Good. It means that you’ve stood up for something, sometime in your life.””
That quote is from from a D&D novelization or something, not from Churchill.
I’ve continued a conversation someone just started, in this thread: NEW Stupid Republican Idea of the Day (Part 2) - #6515 by JKellyMap
One interesting aspect to this: If he weren’t such a blatant criminal and serial, impulsive liar — that is, if it were just a case of resume embellishment — the sad thing is, he might have had a compelling life story to tell without embellishing! (Maybe). The only real job we can verify he ever held was as a call-center customer assistant, for a year. That’s a good thing! Good customer assistants are hard to find, and could be a great training for serving one’s constituents!
Instead, sadly, he thought he’d be rejected if he didn’t have things like “Goldman Sachs” and “Citibank” on his resume. For this voter (me), those are turn-OFFS.
