I didn’t see anything on this race, but I think it’s an important one.
Looks like Dems are going to take this district to replace George Santos.
It’s a bellwether for the presidential election in November, and it bodes well for Democrats. I was really hoping this one was going to go as it is and hope the trend continues.
And the race has been called, Suozzi wins. Gift link.
The D’s won this by a margin well over the one Santos won it in 2022 and close to what Biden won it by in 2020. This is potential good news for Fall of 2024.
ETA: Protester just got on stage while Suozzi was starting his victory speech screaming about the Hamas/Israeli war saying he supports genocide. They got taken down pretty hard but got within inches of him first.
It didn’t help the Republican cause that Mazi Pilip lacked any cohesive ideas for how to get anything done. She’s just blurt out there were problems and not talk about how to solve them.
Yeah. I don’t know why any of these people think the Palestinians would be better off with more Republicans in power.
ETA: I suppose they might think the Democrats might listen to them, while they’re entirely sure the Republicans won’t; so the Democrats are who they yell at. But I don’t think they’re really thinking this through.
ETA again: unless they’re actually Republicans who just want an excuse to yell at Democrats, of course. But I don’t think all of them are.
Dems have been reliably winning special elections all across the country in both state and federal races since 2022 mid-terms. This race was of particular interest because of Republicans’ narrow margin in the House, but Dems winning is a trend.
There was another special election that Dems won at the state level in Pennsylvania tonight, too. It means they will maintain their majority in the Pennsylvania House. By one vote.
I find that the previews only work if you cut out all the garbage, which is what I call everything after and including the question mark. It will probably remove the gift aspect of the link, but just out of curiosity I’m going to try it here:
Yes that’s one of the reasons. Everyone should follow Jeff Jackson (d) NC on social media. He breaks down the inner workings of the house like no other. He recently posted a video about the first impeachment vote and how the Speaker did things to preserve the ability to bring it to a second vote.
Unfortunately Jackson is getting gerrymandered out of the house. He’s running for NC Attorney General instead. I hope he continues to be a rising star for the Democrats
Just wondering where you had to see the commercials over and over? I don’t watch TV much but they’re one reason I’ve been actively avoiding TV–I live in the district.
And the other candidate, Mazi Pilip, is still an Israeli citizen. She holds dual citizenship.
