What happened to all those bodies from Saddam's gas attack?

Remember back when Saddam gassed all those Kurds, and the bodies were filmed laying in the streets? IIRC, there were about 5,000 or so. What do you do with such a pile of rotting meat? I would imagine the survivors were somewhat dismayed at the prospect, but Islam I think requires quick burial. Heavy earth moving machinery would be in short supply, too. They didn’t just lay in the street, did they?

(It must suck to be a Kurd - we need a thread: "Ask the Kurd")

It sure must suck to be a Kurd. Check out this, but not right before or after you eat:

There’s more background on Iraq on Human Rights Watch’s main site (www.hrw.org). It’s enough to turn anyone’s stomach.

We are all up in arms about Hussein gassing his own people (the Kurds) - but I remember reading somewhere that the Kurds in the north of Iraq have actually voluntarily hosted Al Qaeda members - and maybe still are. Can anyone confirm or refute that?

I don’t know whether Al-Qaeda has ben hiding out in Kurdish-controlled territory. However, even if they are there right now,

  1. Al-Qaeda in its current form probably didn’t exist during the period of the Anfal; and

  2. does the possible presence of a few lunatics justify genocide agains tthe Kurds?
