What happens if Trump is indicted in Georgia? (Indicted on August 14, 2023)

LOL, whoa, burn! Good catch.

The style almost reminds me of a certain Ed Zotti’s.

Trump has now been indicted on some very serious charges.

Oh, sorry, wrong thread. That’s for the Jan 6th election interference, not the Georgia phone call.

No worries! They’re all of a piece.

I think that this is what you wanted to point out. I managed to copy it and manually fix the spacing. With the alliteration in the first line and the snidely insulting suggestion at the end I think its clear the judge enjoyed writing this decision.

Perplexingly, prematurely, and with the standard pugnacity, Trump has filed not one but two mandamus actions against the District Attorney and this Court- one in the Supreme Court of Georgia (case82301134, which the Supreme Court has already dismissed) and one in the Superior Court of Fulton County. Peculiarly, neither petition requests the sole relief available under mandamus: an order "compelfling” a public officer to perform a required duty. That “required duty,” though it is only obliquely referenced in the twin mandamus petitions, could only be for this Court to rule on the pending motion. Perhaps the conspicuous omission of a demand for such relief is due to petitioner’s counsel’s familiarity with O.C.G.A.§15-6-21(b). Pursuant to that statute, a superior court judge in a county with more than 100,000 inhabitants (such as Fulton County) must decide all motions within 90days after briefing is complete. Basic calendar math shows why mandamus relief is not (yet) available: the State’s response was filed on 15 May 2023, per the Court’s amended (and unobjected to) Scheduling Order of 1 May 2023. Ninety days from 15 May 2023 is 13 August 2023—which is a Sunday—making the statutory deadline for the Court’s Order 14 August 2023. Before that date, there is nothing to compel. We are several weeks from that date and here is the Order. This filing ,while it will indubitably generate an appeal, should render moot Civil Action 2023CV382670 as to the supervising judge. In the future, counsel is encouraged to follow the professional standard of inquiring with Chamber’s staff about timing and deadlines before burdening other courts with unnecessary and unfounded legal filings.

Yes, that’s it. I started the process of fixing the spacing but gave it up halfway – not enough time to see it through.

Another witness seen in ga this morning.

While reporting on the witness this morning, cnn mentioned that should one be found guilty of Rico offences in ga, it is an automatic 5 years in prison, for starters.

" The Fulton county district attorney investigating Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election results in the state of Georgia is expected to present evidence to a grand jury and ask it to return indictments as early as next Tuesday, according to two people familiar with the matter."

the following 2 paragraphs are very interesting. much pondering was happening about georgia and the 2 paragraphs do answer many of the questions. sounds like some people got very nervous after the january charging decisions were foretold. accepting deals will slim down the amount of defendants.

"Willis originally suggested charging decisions were “imminent” in January, but the timetable has been repeatedly delayed after a number of Republicans who sought to help Trump stay in power as so-called fake electors accepted immunity deals as the investigation neared its end.

The district attorney’s office has been issuing summons to witnesses to testify before the grand jury, as part of the final presentation by prosecutors that is expected to take just a couple of days before they ask the grand jury to return an indictment, the people said."

Countdown to: “I don’t know any of those people! They never spoke with -me-. Liars! Witch hunt!”

This may have come up before but this is new to me: no Governor pardons in Georgia. A convict has to serve out their sentence and then wait five years before they can apply to the Board of Pardons and Parole. Also, during that five years, one must live a model life. (MSNBC interview is my source for this)

I am pretty sure that Trump is going to jail in Georgia. I wonder which of Georgia’s 34 state prisons is the nicest one?

See post 49 above.

Thanks! I do love the idea of Trump trying to live a law-abiding life for five minutes after serving a sentence of any length whatsoever in the nicest prison in Georgia. Well, that and the “wait five years” part which at Trump’s age is a diminishing option. At least he will have lots of friends in jail with him and I am sure they will be happy to all be in prison together, right? Right…?

If he goes to prison in Georgia, he may die in prison, let alone get out and live a law-abiding life for five years.

more tealeaf reading in georgia.

from cbs news and cnn:

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis is expected to spend two days presenting her case before a grand jury next week.

Willis could seek several indictments as she eyes a sweeping racketeering case that could cast Trump and several of his associates as operating as a criminal enterprise in their endeavors to upend Georgia’s election results.

(CNN) — Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis is expected to seek more than a dozen indictments when she presents her case regarding efforts by Donald Trump and his allies to overturn the 2020 presidential election results in Georgia before a grand jury next week, sources familiar with the matter told CNN.

If Willis proceeds with racketeering charges, “I think she is going to tell a story,” said Georgia State law professor Clark D. Cunningham. “The story of how one person at the top – the former president – really marshaled an army of people to accomplish his goal which was to stay in power through any means.”

Why do I sense Lindsey Graham’s asshole just clenched?

Worst. Superpower. Ever.

Okay, that was funny.

(Once I realized it referred to Kolak’s Spidey sense, not Sen. Graham’s sphinctal skills.)

(Actually, my first thought was “yes, this is another sign of the decline of the US as a global hegemon…but are we really worse than, say, the Soviet Union?”)

“We” as in the USA aren’t.

“We” as in trump, his inner circle, and much of the rest of the Reactionary Wacko Traitor party, totally are.
