According to the press tens of thousands of Shi’ites are descending on a mosque in Karbala for the anniversary of Imam Hussein’s death in Iraq. Several thousand are already at the mosque and the ‘climax’ of the pilgrimage isn’t until later this week. So…what happens when they get there? Is it just a non stop collective prayer and presumably a major sermon by one of their religious leaders or is there an actual focal point to the pilgrimage?
