In lots of the country boats are much less durable than trailers. And trailers are sorta-universal, at least within a given size range of boat. And it’s stupid-expensive to properly dispose of a useless boat.
So you trailer it to your front or back yard, tie it back to a tree or something and use your truck to pull the trailer out from under the boat. Clunk! and it’s on the ground. Right next to that dead Ford up on blocks from 20 years prior.
Then you sell the trailer or reuse it with your new(er boat).
I wouldn’t even say that stuff is really aimed at the aspirational middle class (i.e. people making between say… 80k-250k per household and trying to be/act/appear “rich”). None of those folks are going to fool around with “Trump” branded nonsense- it’s too tacky, believe it or not.
Trump’s brand appears to me to be aimed at working class/lower-middle class people as sort of “rich-guy” products. The marketing seems to be that if you’re not actually exposed to that kind of thing enough to know anything about USDA Prime steaks or wine, you can rely on the famous rich guy’s brand to be the real thing.
Meanwhile, your aspirational upper-middle class people actually know enough about those things to have opinions about Prime steaks or wine, even if their choices are totally guided by what other people will think about what they choose.
Think about it… absent the political baggage, who would eat at a “Trump” branded steakhouse? The same people who’d buy his junk.
Curious, I wet to the Ma-a-Lago website. On the Membership Opportunities page was this gem:
As a member of The Mar-a-Lago Club, members have access to explore the World of Trump, including Trump Turnberry, home to four Open Championships, the legendary Trump National Doral in Miami, Trump National Golf Club, Bedminster, and many other iconic golf courses and private estates.
I then threw up in my mouth a little.
They have not held the British open at Turnberry since Trump bought it and they have no plans to hold it there again.
And I bet you didn’t even have to sit through the theme song:
“It’s a Trump World after all,
It’s a Trump World after all,
It’s a Trump World after all.”
I’m pretty sure no significant tournament will ever be held at a Trump course again.
When PGA of America canceled their contract for the 2022 championship tournament that was supposed to be held at Trump’s Bedminster course, they weren’t coy about their reasons. They plainly stated that associating with Trump would damage the PGA brand.
I’m happy to say that Trump reportedly had a meltdown when he heard the news, and threw one of his famous six-year-old type tantrums.
I’d love to have been a fly on the head to see that.
Voters. His actual followers are about a third of that.
They’re worried Trump will show up and declare he won.
He just might get as many holes-in-one as his NK BFF.
Mmm, I don’t get that. All those that voted for him tend to be devout. at least from my corner of the world.
I like the idea that if Trump is using Mar-a-Lago as a private residence, then the clubs licences should all be removed. It’s either one or the other, and Trump has chosen.
No liquor licence, no business licence, no occupancy permits, no fire permits, nothing.
And if there are violations, sue him over and over and over. And if he is still recalcitrant, then cut off services that the town has control over. Water, power.
Simple. If he wants Mar-a-Lago as a private residence then treat it as a private residence, with all of the regulations that implies.
Not really. I think he really wants to continue both the club and the private residence. If his hand is forced, I expect he’ll find a nearby house to claim as his official residence, while continuing to spend most of his time (even overnights) at Mar-A-Lago.
Maybe he can park a Winnebago in the loading dock. “Hey, I’m not staying in the building!”
Too bad the Republicans haven’t figured out that associating with him is damaging their brand.
As we covered in the voter fraud thread about this, the relationship between Palm Beach and Mar-a-Lago seems to be widely misunderstood. Here’s a recap:
Mar-a-Lago as an estate is unmaintainable. The obvious solution to all real estate developers was to split it up into smaller lots so that each one was more manageable (financially), which would probably mean tearing everything down.
Palm Beach didn’t want Mar-a-Lago torn down, as I guess it has some historical value, so when Trump bought it and tried to split it up into smaller lots they stopped him, and then worked out an agreement wherein he could operate it as a private club, with some restrictions. One of those restrictions was that a certain percentage of members had to be Palm Beach residents, and another restriction was that nobody could stay there more than 21 days a year. The essence of these restrictions was that they wanted the property to be semi-public (at least public for the wealthy residents of Palm Beach who could afford to be members).
In other words, Mar-a-Lago’s status as a private club was forced upon Trump by the city of Palm Beach, and while it appears to have been rather lucrative for him, it’s not a loophole that he necessarily wanted. If he stays there more than 21 days in violation of his agreement, Palm Beach is going to be right back in the same situation it was in in 1993 – Trump would own a massive estate as a private residence with enormous maintenance costs. He would likely sell it and the new buyers would want to break it up into smaller lots. The city would then step in and try to convince the new owner to operate it as a private club open to Palm Beach residents.
