What has caused my mouse to go Crazy Pointing, Opening and Sounding all over the screen? It even closes application/programs. Is this possibly a virus that Norton can not detect? Is it a board or drivers issuers. I ran different PS2 in PS2 port and PS2 to USB ports. I ran the checking for errors tool in My Computer C: Properties.
Dell 400SC tower PC, XP Pro operating Sys and PS2 mouse.
I went into the Ctrl Panel, Device Manager, Mouse Properties and it shows to be working properly with the best drivers vs updating. Set on the slowest speeds helps but the problem still exists.
I had a crappy Inland brand mouse that would do this. It would click for no reason, double click when I single clicked, and jump around the screen. It was cheap as hell and I got exactly what I paid for.
It is possible I needed a better new mouse but I think it was more involved. My Tech Neighbor cleaned “better” my 1st old mouse that I had cleaned and all worked fine. Be fore he finished it froze on the screen. The 2nd cleaned old Logitech is still working.
I feel a lot of the fix was deleting all my old temp files and cookies. Who knows what was in those files that I normally would have deleted monthly and defragged if needed to enhance performance (before health and memory issues).
I’ll plan to look into purchasing an optical mouse this week to replace my old Logitechs.
