How about this:
9/11 happened on BU$HCO’s watch even though they knew that terrorists were a significant and proven threat to this country. Do we have to go down this road again? Bush, if he had read the intelligence, would have known that terrorists may use planes to attack targets in the US. He also knew, as his people were briefed by the outgoing administration’s people that Bin-Laden and his boys were the #1 threat to this country’s security. If we are charitable, we could say that Bush and his people couldn’t follow up on every lead they received. But the fact of the matter is that this nation’s worst terrorist attack took place on their watch and regardless of what the Republicans say, this fact does not change. It was on their watch.
Besides, terrorists don’t need to come to America to kill Americans anymore, there are plenty in Iraq. Why spend all that money getting an operative into the US and supporting him while he carries out a very risky mission when you can strap a bomb on him in Iraq and send him down the way? I don’t see your rational. Just because it is not cost effective to carry out attacks in the US, you claim that BU$HCO is effective in protecting us even though the terrorists are growing in number and attacking us in Iraq? Pardon me but your pathetic smokescreen won’t work on me.
Oh, and the whole deport a Canadian citizen to Syria so he can be tortured thingy:
Also Deal with U.S. won’t prevent repeat of Arar case, inquiry told
So what now? Are we going to start pissing on Canadians too? Way to go. Piss off the country right on our border who has always been an ally, or at least not yet turned against us. Way to fucking go.
At least we haven’t threatened to invade them in 161 years.
Just because you have a problem with the post hoc fallacy does not mean that the rest of us are similarly logic-impaired.
Er, no, you didn’t do any such thing. You merely asserted that the absence of terrorist attacks proves that the administration is following the correct policies. In response, several people quite correctly called BS and noted that you were engaged in a textbook example of the post hoc fallacy.

Thank you for appreciating the sarcasm, Lute.
Steve, are you seriuously contending that if a 9/11 scale attack happened tomorrow that the folks on the left wouldn’t immediately blame GWB?
They would be raising the roof…talking about “misplaced priorities” and how Bush is a “recruiting tool” for jihadists. Yet when nothing happens, he’s not doing anything right either.
The mental gymnastics required to relate a leftist worldview to reality must be exhausting.
Both can be true.
If you require, I can post cites from intel analysts which suggest that the campaign in Iraq has increased recruiting for Al Queda. Along the same lines, it takes several years for AQ to plan an attack. For instance, the WTC was attacked first in 1993, and not again till september 11th.
So, we can both say that Bush is increasing AQ membership, and that we can’t really tell if he’s prevented any attacks since there is usually a time lag between major attacks.
I will concede that neither one of us can say for certain when the next attack will be. Are you willing to concede that the actions that the Bush administration has taken since 9/11 have made it more difficult for AQ to plan and execute an attack?
Along certain vectors? Perhaps.
In general? No.
Our ports, our borders, our freight, etc… still are not secure. I do not believe that we are significantly more secure now than on september 10th.
Are you seriously contending that you’d grant Bush a pass on the death of 3,000 more Americans, just because you happen to agree with his politics?
The issue isn’t politics, it’s programs. Have the Bush programs made us safer?
