So I cut off most of my hair when we had 108-degree days this summer… it was a great idea then, but now that it’s getting colder, I can’t decide on the best way to keep my head warm.
Tell me what sort of looks you like for winter women’s headgear! If you have ideas for what I can try, that’d be even better. Random details:
My beloved gray peacoat is lined but not bulky and is perfect for the weather we have here… but it has no hood. I’ve looked at coats, but surely it’s cheaper to just get a hat or two!
I’m 23, short, and I still like my pixie-like haircut, but all the hats I have from previous winters are tight-fitting beanie sorts of things. With hair past my shoulders - or even just chin-length - my hair stuck out underneath the hat and didn’t look horrible when I took it off. Now, though, I don’t like the effect.
I’m not a big fan of fake fur but could be convinced if it looks okay.
Also not a big fan of big pom-poms on hats, or hats shaped like animals, or other young details, at least not for me right now. I’m young-looking, and I work with high-school kids and need to do everything I can to look older than they are!
Thanks and I look forward to your ideas and pics: from shops, from image search, from your own head… bring it on!
(cold face with no idea what to put on its head)
The model in this knit hat is sporting a pixie cut and I think the hat looks great on her. Also, stylish, mature, no pom-poms or fur.
I also the other styles of knit hat on that site. Sometimes I wished I lived somewhere other than Southern California just so I could wear a cute winter hat.
I think cloche hats look particularly cute on girls with short hair. In fact I have one from my short hair days and I think it looks weird with my long hair.
I like it! Do you know what they call those hats that sort of go toward the back instead of covering your head? I know it’s knit but that could be lots of things, and I’ve never heard ‘romance hat’ before.
Cloche hat! I never knew the name of what I thought of as ‘those silent-movie-star hats.’ I like them, thanks!
And yes HazelNutCoffee, I will try on before buying if at all possible! Stylish as my sister is, she offered to pick some out for my birthday but the ones she brought home all fit oddly in different ways. (Of course, they all looked good on her, so…)
Two things I don’t think you mentioned: Your face shape, and your nose shape. My gf has a big honker, so her style hat will be different. I think that the Pins and Needles hat, on one of the links is best for her.
ETA: However- a regular beret never hurts!

I have a heart-shaped face and closest to what this site calls a “Roman nose.” I thought about head shape and hairstyle, but I never considered that nose shape until now.
(too late to edit: “…considered that nose shape mattered until now.”)
also: on further looking, I don’t know what to call my nose exactly, but Roman appears to not be it according to other sites!
