I need help finding a winter hat that I look good in.

Well, we got our first snow-dump today, and once again it’s time to bundle up. I always have a hard time finding a decent hat, though. I don’t like hoods or scarves. My problem with hats is that I have a round face and a small head, so whenever I wear a hat I look like a volleyball with a hat on. Not flattering. It seems like every winter hat I try on looks terrible on me. Is there anyone here with the same problem who has found a hat that compliments them? If you can link to a pic that would be great. I don’t really care much how I look as long as I’m warm, but I at least want my head to look normal.

Here’s my rule whne it comes to winter clothing:

I don’t give a fuck how dumb I look.

When it’s twenty below and snowing, I dress for warmth, screw fashion.

Besdies…how many different style witner hats can there be? I mean, you got a took and…umm…those little hats with the ear flaps? One of those large Russian hats?

Holy cow.
I mean, my thoughts exactly, but substitute “Below freezing” for “twenty below”.

A kalpak! I love my kalpak! You’re going to look stupid but that’s part of its appeal and it really is warm.

A man walks down the street wearing that hat, you know he ain’t afraid of nothin’.

Hey! You know what? I would totally wear that. I don’t want to be a fashion plate; I just want something that doesn’t make my head look like a perfect sphere. And I reckon that hat wouldn’t.

Where’d you get it?

You either have a hat-head or you don’t. If you do, you can be ugly as sin and any hat will look good on you (like me). If you don’t, no hat will look good on you.

Hats are one of the few total binary items in life.

It’s the national hat of Kyrgyzstan. A friend in the Peace Corps was stationed there a few years ago and sent it to me but I have no idea how you would find one if you don’t happen to know a Kyrgyzstani* or someone that does.

I have a hard time believing something would look unflattering on you.

*I like saying Kyrgyzstan

How about a cloche or a winter bucket hat? (scroll down)

The Canadian Olympic team has some cool hats even if the models look like they’ve been outside too long.

Or you could mug these guys

I smell a Caddyshack quote coming!

“This is the worst lookin’ hat I ever saw…oh, it looks good on you though!”

Just find something weird enough to distract from your round-headedness. I’ve got a couple like that: a giant bastard child of a pirate hat and a pimp hat (with lots of feathers) and a big black russian hat with a communist star pin. Both of them are distinctive enough to make everyone forget all about what’s underneath them.

I like the hats the Olympic team has on too. Hmmm, I might have to do some hunting. I’ve never seen those styles sold around where I live. It all seems to be knitted round things or felt round things.

Looks like the trick is to find something that comes to a point somewhere, like the examples shown, to help break away from the circular look.

That’s cool. I don’t think I know any Kyrgyzstanis.

Oh yes. When I have a round hat on, I look like one of the South Park kids.

Those are the out sourcing guys in Dilbert aren’t they?

I have no idea, cplant. I never read Dilbert.

I sent my friend an email asking if he might know where you might be able to buy one. I’ll tell you what he says. And, also, I think you’re pretty damned cute.

Good Gad.

For the love of Og, what kinda Canadian are you?! Where’s your toque?

Get a cute toque, and put your hair in pig tails, and no one will notice your volleyball head because you’ll look so darn cute. Mmm, pigtail girls with toques…
goes to dig out her pink toque with the pom-pom on top

There is a Kalpak for sale on eBay.

I don’t think anyone looks bad in winter hats. I actually find it more appealing when people dress properly instead of the people who walk around freezing their tits off because they’re too cool to dress for the weather.

That looks exactly like mine; must be the generic tourist design.

Oh! that’s the cutest hat. Thanks for the up-close view.
