What have YOU bought because of the SDMB?

I bought Bad Astronomy and I’m loving it! Very readable, and definite party conversation material!

Me, too. Just bought it yesterday, so I haven’t had a chance to read it yet.
I’ve got a list of books I’ve seen in various threads that I’m planning to pick up; I just happened to see Fast Food Nation while browsing through Waldenbooks and remembered it was on my list.

Another person who bought Fast Food Nation because of what I read here.

Didn’t think it was as gory and horrible as everyone had led me to believe, but my opinion of that industry is pretty low to begin with.

My biggest buy as a direct result of this board has to be my computer (Now I would have bought it regardless, but I essentially tossed it over to the masses as what to get, and where to get it). I haven’t been disappointed or have any regrets (You yourself KK gave input in that thread).

I’ve made a number of changes and upgrades since the big buy, but because of the advice here, and it’s accuracy, what might have been problems with upgrading a different system was pretty straight forward with mine.

Outside of that, I’ve picked up a few video games because one person or another went goofy over it. But since my tastes in games is narrow and specific, I wasn’t torn up with the suggestions.

Oh, and before I go, music. I’m a sucker for those, ‘Whatcha listening to right now’, or, ‘Help me get my lady in the mood!’ threads. Because of that, I pretty much… ummm… ‘check out’ each and every song listed in those threads.

I’m definetely listening to things I wouldn’t have found on my own.

As a whole, I’ve always had good luck here when it comes to people’s advice and suggestions. It’s probably the biggest reason I stay and continue to contribute to those kinds of threads.

love bus brew.

Some of the books mentioned in the Shocking Book thread.

Sheesh, all sorts of books. Off the top of my head:[ul][li]The Beak of the Finch by Jonathan Weiner[/li][li]The Blind Watchmaker by Richard Dawkins[/li][li]A History of God by Karen Armstrong[/li][li]Why People Believe Weird Things by Michael Shermer[/ul]hmmm…I think I spend too much time reading GD. On a lighter note:[ul][]Hyperion (and all the sequels) by Dan Simmons[/li][]His Dark Materials Trilogy by Philip Pullman[/ul]And Civilization III, the computer game. I got a real kick reading all the threads that popped up around the time of its release. It’s probably one of the most addictive computer games I’ve ever played.

Heh, I’m just now getting around to reading Guns, Germs and Steel cuz a non-Doper friend gave it to me. I was scared to read it cuz one of the little blurbs on the jacket is by Colin Renfew, who is of Renfew and Bahn fame… they wrote the horrendous archaeology text all us archaeology majors cried ourselves bored over.

GG&S is really cool.

The SDMB is indirectly responsible for my having spent thousands of dollars. Those beers add up.

Many many many many books.

But, I read Guns, Germs, and Steel before ever reading about it here! Ha HA!
