What have you overheard?

I saw a girl in a silk nightdress, running after her boyfriend (I think)
Yelling tearfully “Its my birthday, Its my birthday” as he walked away with
a look of anger on his face.
.
I often wonder what it was all about.

A number of years ago I was at a restaurant and I overheard the couple a table over talking in french.

Now, my french was not really that good, but good enough to get the general idea of what they were saying - and it was really a quite explicit discussion of what they wish they could do right there in public.

I guess they (almost) correctly assumed no-one would understand them.

I was sitting in church, near the front, as my great aunt’s funeral was winding down. The priest and most, but not all, of my family had already filed out. I was listening to the organist play the postlude, and looked up when I heard the organist’s cellphone ring! He very adroitly pulled it out and stuck it between his cheek and shoulder, continuing to play without missing a beat. He said, not all that quietly, “Hello?.. Yes… Oh, hi… no, just finishing up here… Yeah, the funeral. I should be out of here in the next ten minutes or so… OK, bye!” All this clearly audible against the backdrop of a beautiful hymn.

I couldn’t decide if I was amused or appalled. Probably a bit of both.

‘We could have two nuns roasting a midget on a spit over an open fire.’

Overheard at Kelbo’s in the late-'80s.

Years ago I was killing time sitting on a chair on the first floor of the Citicorp Building in NYC. At the time there were a lot of little shops so it was sort of like a mini Mall. I have no idea if it’s the same now.

Anyway, behind me there was a woman’s voice and another person. Turns out the woman was Lisa Sliwa (then wife of Curtis Sliwa, the founder of the Guardian Angels) and she was being interviewed by this other person for a magazine/newspaper article–something like that. I don’t remember all the details because this had to be in the 80s but at the time it was pretty interesting and fun to me to overhear the interview.
