What Historical Figure do you have a crush on?

Joan de Arc, mmm. Of course if she came to this time, (and I stood a chance with her) I would teach her proper, American hygene (shave armpits, legs etc)

French babe! French? The Lady Godiva was English. Confusing a English folk heroine with a French anything is simply not done. If you have a crush on her, you should at least know where she is from and what her story is. It’s like knowing a girl’s last name before you go to bed with her–a sign of a good upbringing. You do know the story, don’t you? I mean, why she rode down the street of Coventry? She wasn’t just some medieval exhibitionist, you know. And confusing her with Joan of Arc! Cheese Head, please, tell me you were joking. Why would Joan of Arc–a war leader–ride anywhere naked?

Redeem yourself, darling, tell me Lady Godiva’s story. And while you’re at it–who was Helen’s husband?

C’mon, Eve. Haven’t you seen Chasing Amy?

Not that I could compete with you or anything.

I would love to have fun with Black Adder’s Queenie. Ah but I doubt Lizzie was all the much fun in real life, after all wasn’t she the virgin queen? Or maybe I could cozy up with Hatchupset, a nice little Egytpian Pharoah (female for those who don’t know)
Hmm, women in power and no I don’t have those kinds of fantasies.

And since I’m wishing I might as well wish for Aphrodite.

The Duke of Parma - Alexander Farnese, who just seems to define the word dashing.

Henry IV of France.

Robert, Earl of Leicester.

I forgot Christopher Marlowe- although he was supposed to be gay, so I guess my chances are pretty slim.

Antinous. (I studied Roman History.)

Nitpick. She never rode into battle naked. There was a story that she rode to the Crusades barebreasted, but I don’t even know if that was true.

She WAS reputed to be a great beauty, as well as a powerful and influential heiress.

Hijack–I highly recommend “The Sunne In Splendor” by the same author. I recently bought a second copy of this book, intending to send it to my friend, until she stopped being my friend. :frowning:

I still can’t recommend it highly enough. Might be one of my top ten books on a desert island.

Re the topic: As far as CRUSHES go, Helen of Troy. Or Mata Hari. Who I might fall in love with might be someone more intelligent and/or nobler, with looks less important. Eleanor of Aquitanine’s not a bad choice.

Doroty Parker a fun gal and what a sense of humor.

Haj

Does it have to be someone we’ve seen?
I have a serious thing for the Marque DeSade!!! Reputation alone.
And now you know just how twisted I really am.

Another vote for Thomas Jefferson.
I used to be really interested in “The Old West”, cowboys, etc. Well, I always liked Doc Holliday. So cold, so brutal, so tragic…

Whoever it was that was the model for Jia Tan-chun in The Dream of the Red Chamber. Probably one of the author’s cousins.

I’m not sure if this counts, seeing how we never studied about her in History class, but I’ve also got the warm fuzzies for Deanna Durbin.

Albert—Gee, I always seem to have SOME comment about your crushes . . . Just wanted to letcha know Deanna Durbin is alive and well and living in Paris, so get yourself a ticket and try your chances with her!

Funny, I’m re-reading it (for the third or fourth time now) and I think it’s Penman’s second best book, behind Falls the Shadow. But, then again, I might be a little biased.

Oh, and Anne Neville is a hottie aw well.

Marja Sklodowska (better known as Marie Curie)

Olga Romanov

Wow, I thought I was a weirdo and both my weird historical crushes have been taken!
Of course, they’re both male and I’m a straight male so it’s probably for the best.

— G. Raven

(One was the lead singer (and namesake) of my favorite song: “Morrison’s Lament”, the other rode around on his horsies and burned down much of Asia and Russia on behalf of the Mongol empire. Go ahead, guess! ;))

I’ve had a crush on Abraham Lincoln since the 4th grade.
If I had to base it on looks alone, it would be Franz Liszt. What a babe!

Gaius Julius Caesar - brains, beauty, charm, taste, class… what more could a girl ask for?

Another vote for Robert of Leicester.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - he seemed like a guy who could have a good time.

Richard III is sooo hot. And smart, and I feel so sorry for the poor guy. I’ve always liked a brooder, too.

OLGA??? I LOVE Olga-she’s my favorite. Did you know that my crush, King Aleksandar was in love with her, and was going to propose, when WWI broke out? He never got a chance, and she was killed, and he never got over it?

sigh
sometimes I think I was Olga in another life…
