Anyone here want to argue that Rush Limbaugh’s popularity has dropped among his fans since he was revealed to be a pill-popping liar? Or that Bill O’Reilly’s vivid metaphors during phone conversations have made him somehow less appealing to the right? Or that Newt Gingrich filing for divorce from his wife while she was in the hospital for cancer surgery made him less of a symbol for the conservative movement?
Face it, when it’s our guy who gets caught, we find all sorts of ways to dismiss, justify or rationalize the behavior. That goes for the left and right alike.
I for one would thoroughly enjoy the pissing contest that would start. Democrats who said “big deal” over Clinton would be demanding all sorts of action and punishment and etc. Republicans who wanted to tear down Clinton would be the ones saying “big deal”. Democrats who screamed about witch hunts would be leading one. Republicans who led the old witch hunt would be decrying it. It would illustrate the hypocrisy on both sides. It would not accomplish or solve anything, but my nasty side would sure enjoy the show.
What a crock. What is moral about lying to start a war? What is moral about outing a CIA agent? What is moral about allowing and encouraging the use of torture? What is moral about gutting the agency responsible for reacting to disasters? If this is Christian morality, give me an atheist.
Only if you’re confused about what the definition of “is” is.
I’m tired of hearing about vast right-wing conspiracies and vast left-wing conspiracies; where’s the vast libertarian conspiracy to defame all of these lying bastards?
Personally, I’m part of the vast apathetic conspiracy. We’ve all sorts of plans to undermine the political structure and reputations of leading pundits…but it’s just not worth the bother.
Wow, nobody has cited the “9/11 changed everything” excuse yet?
He already has, but nobody is calling him on it.
I’d throw them all in jail (or as much as can be done), if only to remind the politicians that it’s the citizens who wield the power. But then, I’m being an optimistic dreamer today.
There certainly would not be impeachment proceedings if we learned that Mush had lied under oath. As long as the Republicans control Congress, the control the relevant committees and thus decide whether there will be an investigation or not. Given that there has been no movement among Republicans to oust Tom Delay despite his many misdeeds, and that there’s not even slight unhappiness with Karl Rove betraying the name of a CIA agent, we can safely conclude that Congressional Republicans put party loyalty above obeying the law.
As for Faux News, that more spotty. I doubt they would ignore the story, as Faux news goes in for mindless glurge stories as much as the next cable news network. Their pundits would, of course, try to spin every development in the Bush sex scandal in the manner most positive towards Bush.
Which scandal: The affair, or lying about it under oath?
Fox News would report it, just as they reported the DUI info before the 2000 election.
Some conservatives would dump on him and some would defend him. There were plenty of Democrats who dumped on Clinton when the affair was proven to have happened. There would be plenty of Republicans who’d react the same way towards Bush.
Do you think it’s only Republicans who are partisan?
